Starting in middle school, where in Ion's world begins at the 5th grade, the day is broken into two distinct sects, the morning would be like how school was the previous four years, with the normal classes one would expect but the afternoon started something new in the lives of the kids which would help develop their aptitudes, known as the Guild Sect. Here each kid would choose a guild field to study in which would take place at different campuses around the city which would meet the needs of the specified Guild Sect. During the first two years of the Guild Sect each student was free to drop out of one and enter another as they would explore their aptitudes as by the 7th grade it was more expected to fully delve into your desired field but it was still a bit rare for students to transfer around as a lot of them felt their natural call, as was the case with Flint and Zephyr who joined the Guild Sects Coggsworks (Artificer) and Squireguard (Knights) respectively but for Ion he was one of the few who made a change to follow his own desired path. It was customary for the Yggdrasil kin to enter the Squreguard Guild Sect as that was seen as the clear route for one who would be the future Yggdrasil, as the discipline of a knight would help better shape the position of a future leader and like his father and grandfather before him, Ion joined the Squireguard when the Guild Sect studies began, though issues quickly sprung up. While Zephyr found success as a Squire, Ion did not, in fact he was one of the lowest scoring during his brief time there, though that was not due to his lack of skills, more so on how he went about them. Ion was a more free flowing blade master and the more strict and ruggedness of a Knight's code stifled his creativity in the way he approached combat which lead to clashes with the Bannerets over everything he tried to do and Ion was always considered wrong at every step as he didn't do things the proper way, the Knight's way. Discouraged, Ion would go home in a depressed mood which his father noticed during the first week of the Guild Sect, after the weeks was over, he sat down with Ion to see what was troubling him where he explained how he detested the Squireguard as he was feeling they are trying to make him into something that he is not as his father listened to each of Ion's words to which he, unexpectedly to Ion, said why don't you find a Guild Sect that make you happy. This took Ion off guard as the Squireguard was expected of the Yggdrasils but his father explained it was the same way for him as well when he was younger, he detested the Squireguard but his own father made him push through as it was what was seen needed to be the future Yggdrasil but he felt he could reach that through different means. He was not going to allow himself to make the same mistake as his father did and allow Ion to choose the path he felt best to perusing no matter what others would say about the prospects of the future Yggdrasil not being a Squireguard. With this support, Ion thought it over during that weekend then after on the Monday he left for the Squireguard Guild early as the midday started and left a simple note at his Banneret's desk informing him of his immediate departure as he then went over the the campus he wanted to enter from the very beginning, the Guild Sect of Spellcrafter (Mage/Psynergist) and join their ranks as the first Yggdrasil Magus. As Ion was already versed in the basics of Psynergy, he was bumped up to the highest starting level for a Spellcrafter and quickly felt at home studying in this field as it was all about that creativity. He had a natural knack for a lot of the main aspects of the Spellcrafters, some specifically in creating Spell Seals/Circles and Psynergic Items which help bolden his own abilities and the other around him. He also started to become affluent in staff combat fairly quickly as he trained in Mage combat, though one of the Sages did make sure Ion would keep up with his blade work as well since he was naturally gifted with a sword (among other weapons as it seamed), something most Magus' didn't have an affinity for as they could see in Ion he could reach the more rare skillset of a Spell Sword and it was something they would help him fully blossom.

Well of course, as stated in my flavour text this is when Ion chose the Spellcrafters when he entered the 5th grade so he is 10 years old in this portrait, he doesn't loose his arm, get the nose plate and such until he is 18, so yes no nose plate ^^
