I was in the 2nd grade a year after my family immigrated to the U.S. The private school I attended had an Easter egg hunt in the school auditorium on the Friday before that Easter.
There were two prizes, each being a big chocolate bunny. One prize was for who found the most eggs. And the other was for who found the Golden Egg.
I was the first to see the Golden egg. It was cradled in a woodwork curve of the piano in the auditorium.
I didn't go get it at first. I was afraid I might get into trouble if I was the one who grabbed the goldden egg.
I began thinking, "Maybe the golden egg was not meant for someone like me to get".
I had doubts about getting it because it just seemed so special...Like it was sacred or something.
About the time I thought, "Maybe it would be okay if I got the golden egg after all", a girl shuffled up and grabbed it.
