"Natural-born musician"

Over the course of his life, this lizard has mastered his odd flute-like tail, and he's become a fairly popular performer because of that! With him able to hold in a huge amount of air as well, he's able to perform an entire song underwater without taking any breaks to breathe, so even aquatic life can enjoy his music. Good thing it still comes through pretty clear despite the bubbles!

squirtlerocks07 and I did an RP based on this.

S: on a relatively normal dive, Emi the Shiny Squirtle was diving down in the deep depths, just having a great time with no worries at all, until he hears what appears to be music playing, curious as to where it was coming from, they cautiously swim towards where the sound was coming from

L: Before too long, they find the source of it. Nearby, a lizard is sitting on a rock, an audience of a couple dozen fish listening to him as, somehow, he plays his tail as if it's a flute! Despite all the bubbles coming through, the sound is perfectly clear, and the song's pretty good too.

S: Emi's eyes go wide at this, he couldn't help but hum along to the song and decides to swim over to the lizard and sit down next to them to listen to the rest of the song

L: The song goes on about a minute longer, the lizard having no obvious need for air even at the end of it. Once he finishes, he lets go of his tail as he looks out and smiles at his audience, who applaud him with their fins.

S: emi claps his hands too, even managing to whistle while underwater in praise to the lizard's performance
"Amblazing!!!"

L: The lizard gives Emi a wave, before his chest finally heaves a bit, and he gets up to hop off the rock and start swimming for the surface as the nearby fish start to disperse.

S: emi's own need to breathe begins to well up inside him as he too jumps up from the rock and swims up to the surface with the lizard, leaving behind a trail of bubbles, and before too long the two of them surface at the same time, gasping for breath

"Wow...you were amazing! I didn't know you could play music so well...from, I guess your tail?"

L: "Thanks! Yeah, my tail is sort of like a flute, look." The lizard shows Emi his tail, and it has some little holes near the end and on the tip of it, clearly being hollow in that section. "It's always been like this, and I've gotten pretty good at playing it."

S: emi looks at the lizard's flute like tail and smiles at it
"Very interesting... I've never seen anything like that before"

L: "Neither have I, as far as I know I'm the only person like this. A few years ago I decided I'd actually learn to play it, and that's been working out pretty well, I've gotten fairly popular!"

S: "Well with skills like that, I'm not surprised on how popular you are! My name is Emi by the way, it's nice to meet you! Whats your name?"

L: "I'm Alex. It's nice to actually get to talk to a fan out here, normally when I perform underwater it's only for random fish."

S: "Well I guess a pokemon is enough of someone else huh? Hehe! Seriously your great! By the way, I've been working on my singing for a bit, never done it underwater but, I think I'm proud of my progress"

L: "Oh, you sing? Could you maybe give me an example? Maybe we'll be able to perform together, if you'd be up for that."

S: "It ain't perfect, but...sure, I've never sang in front of someone before..." emi was a little nervous, but he eventually sings a quick song to Alex, it's not that bad and it actually sounds good

L: Alex smiles as he listens to the song, and nods when it's done. "That does sound pretty good! Yeah, I'd definitely be up for teaming up with you, if you want!"

S: "Hmm, a duet...now that sounds like fun... I suppose I could team up with you"

L: "Something I do have to tell you though, if you want to do an underwater show with me. I feel like a good portion of why those ones do so well is that I don't have to pause to breathe, so it would be best if you could manage to stay underwater for the whole song. Do you think you'd be able to do that?"

S: "I mean, being a water type helps, I've got a pretty decent breath hold time, but since I've never sung underwater it might be less then that, so honestly I don't know..."

L: "Then, before we start, we should do a practice one to make sure this'll work. You try to sing an entire song underwater, I'll see about trying to follow along with it. Don't worry about doing well with it for now."

S: "Well...ok, I'm pretty nervous tho...I've never sung a song underwater before, I don't know if I could do it..."

L: "I don't blame you, I'm kind of shy about talking underwater myself... But maybe you'll end up finding this fun once you try it out."

S: "Maybe I don't know, it's just that I'm always used to keeping my mouth shut when underwater, so it's gonna be rather hard to sing a song down there, heh..." emi blushes shyly

L: "I used to have some trouble with that too... The first time I played my flute tail underwater, it was actually an aquatic fan of mine that convinced me to try it. So, it might take some time, but I think you'll be able to do this with enough encouragement."

S: "An aquatic fan convinced you? Well honestly I just need that same convincing for me, because as I said I'll be really hard for me to do something like this underwater"

L: "Just think about how popular you might get! I've already got a decent amount of fans both on land and in the ocean, I'm sure it won't take long for them to start liking you too!"

S: "I suppose that's a good point, being popular is nice..." emi sighs a bit
"I really need convincing tho... it's gonna be hard the first time"

L: "Well, you talked underwater a little before we came up here, right? I don't imagine singing would really be all that different, it'd pretty much just be a lot more underwater talking."

S: "That was like one word, but yeah... I'll just have to try and see if I can do it..."

L: "It was better than nothing, anyway. Let's just give it a quick shot and see what you think, then if you don't like it we can try to think of something to do."

S: "Alright then" emi adjusts his swim goggles a little, and that's when he notices that the lizard isn't wearing any
"Hey, can you see fine underwater? You've got no goggles on"

L: "Yep, mostly don't need any myself. I can see pretty well underwater, I only really need goggles to be able to read, that's all."

S: "Hmm, I see... kind of wish you had some on, I'll make me feel better about this, normally when I see others wearing swim goggles they tend to always put me at ease because they look so cute in them"

L: "Oh, well, I do always bring some with me just in case." Alex gets out some goggles and puts them on. "How's that?"

S: emi's smile is bigger now
"Much better... you look adorable in them! Now I actually feel confident"

L: "Thanks! And I'm glad you're feeling better! Now, how about we finally try this out together?"

S: "Sounds like a plan to me, now knowing we both have goggles on, heh"

L: "Alright, let's get ready then." Alex starts deeply breathing to get himself ready for the dive.

S: emi starts deeply breathing as well
"By the way, you've ever seen a shiny squirtle before? Hehe!"

L: "Nope, never! I've barely even seen shiny Pokemon in general, and you're actually the first I've met!"

S: "Oh really? Well I'm glad I could be the first then, I was pretty happy when I first realized I was born a shiny, it means I stand out from the other squirtles"

L: "Yeah, there aren't too many squirtles like you! I guess we've both got pretty unique things for our species, huh?"

S: "Oh definitely! That's something we have in common too, oh and I typically wear glasses when I'm not swimming"

L: "That must be kind of annoying, needing to wear those... I've always been glad that's not something I have to worry about."

S: "Yeah, i'm near-sighted so I can't see that well far away, but that's alright, I'm used to it"

L: "I guess your goggles must be the kind that also works like glasses then, huh? Pretty convenient."

S: "Yeah, it is pretty convenient...hehe!" emi smiles at Alex a bit

L: "Anyway, we should probably get started now. Here we go!" Alex takes one more deep breath before diving back down.

S: after a little hesitation, Emi takes a last breath and dives underwater too

L: Alex sits back down on the rock he'd been on before, and grabs his tail as he prepares to play it. He nods to Emi, waiting for them to start.

S: emi goes and sits next to him, he looks around for a brief moment, and is rather nervous about singing underwater, he doesn't do it right away

L: Alex recognizes that Emi is still nervous... He pats their head some, giving them a smile between his puffed cheeks.

S: emi smiles a little back from the pats with his own puffed cheeks, but it's still taking him a bit to sing...

L: Figuring that Emi just needs some more encouragement, Alex holds his tail again and begins to improvise a flute part to the song that Emi had sung before they'd gone underwater.

S: hearing that made emi smile a little and after a bit more hesitation, he finally starts to bubbly sing! And even underwater he sounds clear and is even better at singing then ever before!

L: Alex's eyes briefly go wide in surprise of how good Emi sounds, and he smiles as he continues his part of the song.

S: emi keeps singing out bubbles happily, now he's actually enjoying this a little

L: As the two continue, some passing fish begin stopping to listen to the song, a new audience beginning to form.

S: while emi was a bit nervous when a crowd of fish began to form, seeing Alex with his goggles on with him makes him relax enough to keep singing, even as his face is turning red

L: This first song's getting close to the end now, and Alex is still doing just fine, clearly far more used to this than Emi is.

S: eventually the song was over as emi's face is fully red, but he managed to make it through the whole thing

L: There's some applause from the fish at that, and Alex pats Emi's head before he starts going back toward the surface.

S: emi makes his way back up to the surface as well, covering his mouth...and soon enough they both surface with no problems and gasp for breath
"Wow! That was fun!"

L: "Told you this would be worth it! And it looks like you've already got some new fans down there, too!"

S: "Wow I never knew a lot of people like my singing so much!"

L: "Yeah, I don't think there's a whole lot of entertainment in the ocean, so performing underwater always goes pretty well! Do you want to try doing a longer song next?"

S: "Longer then that? I don't know if I can handle any more honestly... I was already struggling with that short one..."

L: "I mean, it might be kind of disappointing to those fish if we only did short songs... You looked like you were having fun, but it did seem like you were a bit low on breath when we finished."

S: "Yeah, imagine what I'll be like with a longer song, I might get too low on breath...that's what I'm worried about"

L: "You don't know for sure though, right? And maybe the fish won't mind as much if we have to pause the song for you to go breathe, since you're still new to this."

S: "I suppose that's true, but still I don't know... I'm kind of nervous to do a longer song and drown somehow"

L: "I mean, you'd have plenty of warning from feeling the need to breathe... I bet some of the fish would be willing to help if something goes wrong."

S: "True..." emi sighs a bit then makes his decision
"Fine, I guess I'll try a longer song then..."

L: "I'm sure this'll go just fine, don't worry." Alex starts taking deep breaths again.

S: emi takes some deep breaths too, trying to calm himself down about all this

L: After a bit, Alex is ready again. "Alright, think the fish down there might be getting a bit impatient, so let's get going." He holds his breath and dives back under.

S: emi whines just a bit before he too holds his breath and dives back down as well, letting himself sink deeper

L: There's a bit more applause as the two get back down to the bottom, some more fish than before now having joined in watching. Alex holds his tail, ready to get started but waiting a moment to see if Emi will start this one.

S: hearing the applause from the fish made emi smile a bit before he starts bubbly singing another song, it's one of his favorites that's longer then the last one

L: Recognizing the song, Alex joins in with his flute tail and hopes that it's going to go well.

S: about halfway through the longer song, more sealife joins in the audience, now even dolphins are watching the two of them preform

emi's face is turning red again, but he tries his best to ignore it and keep singing

L: Alex smiles as he looks out at the audience, not having had dolphins show up before. He's blushing a little bit too, but not as much, and he's confident he'll be able to finish the song.

S: emi smiles a bit more as he sees the dolphins, his face is now turning slightly blue as he tries to finish the song

L: The song's at least getting fairly close to the end, while Alex's face is soon fully red. He looks over at Emi, making sure they're going to be okay.

S: emi continues singing even as his face is bluer then usual, a little grunt slipping out every now and again

L: There's a clear bit of worry in the audience now, particularly from the dolphins, while the fish only seem to know something's wrong and not what it is. Alex tries to keep focusing on the song, doing his best to ignore his need for air.

S: as the last bit of song finally comes to a close, emi then covers his mouth with both hands and whines, his face fully blue as he bolts up to the surface

L: Alex does a quick bow to the audience as they applaud, before he starts going up as well. The dolphins come over to help out, boosting him and Emi toward the surface.

S: with the dolphin's help, emi and Alex surface safely as emi gasps heavily for breath

L: Alex gasps as well, just not quite as hard. "Th-that was definitely one of the longest songs I've done underwater..."

S: "Hah...hah...yeah, it's one of my favorites...but man that was a bit rough, glad everyone liked it tho..."

L: "They did seem pretty into it, so that's good, yeah. Maybe that's enough for now, though..."

S: "Yeah I agree, my lungs are a bit tired from all that singing...I just wanna relax"

L: "Yeah, let's head back to shore and just hang out for a bit... And think about how to properly introduce you to my fanbase, too!"

S: "Oh? Well yes please on that! Hehe"

both of them then swim back to shore so they can hang out and talk

L: Alex sits down on the shore once they get there. "I'm thinking I could just put out some kind of announcement online that you've joined up with me... Does that sound good?"

S: emi sits down on the shore next to Alex
"Wow, you have an entire fan base online?? That's crazy! And yeah that sounds great!"

L: "I mean, it's still fairly small, only a couple hundred people... But I bet that's gonna be shooting up by a lot now that I won't be performing alone any more!"

S: "I'll say! Go ahead and post it already! I can't wait to have my own fans!"

L: "Alright, hang on." Alex gets out a waterproof phone and writes up the announcement: "Everyone, from here on there'll be someone else joining me for my performances: Emi, a shiny squirtle! He's a singer, and while he CAN sing underwater, he's still getting used to doing so. Go easy on him!"

S: emi looks at the post and nods in approval of it
"Nice, looks good!"

L: Alex nods back, and posts it. "Now we just wait and see what people think of you joining up with me..."

S: "Hopefully it's all positive...I don't want any haters..." he waits a few minutes to see what the folks think

L: Some responses from people eventually come in... And they're positive!

Response 1: "Ooh, there's gonna be lyrics to your songs now? Cool!"

Response 2: "A shiny, for real? I'm already looking forward to seeing them!"

Alex: "Nice, looks like they're excited!"

S: Response 3 - "A Squirtle?!?! I love Squirtles! I'm more excited now more then ever!

Response 4 - "Shinies?! I'm all about those! I'm sure your songs are gonna be even better then before!"

Emi - "Wow look at all those positive messages! Awesome!" he gives Alex a hug

L: Alex hugs Emi back. "Yeah, they like you already! You're gonna end up pretty popular!"

S: "It's always been my dream to become popular! I'm so excited!" emi's tail wags very happily

L: "I've got a more major show coming up in a few days, so how about we head off and start working on lyrics for the songs in that?"

S: "Sure! Sounds great!" emi giggles cutely

L: "Then let's get going!" Alex gets up, and starts showing Emi the way to his home to start preparing for the upcoming show together.
