"Wrong choice of trap"

After working his way into the deepest point of the temple, the bird finally finds what he's looking for: A small talisman made of carved coral. Taking it off its pedestal, though, he freezes up for a moment as he hears a click from said pedestal... And parts of the chamber's walls open up to begin pouring in a huge amount of water, starting to flood the temple in an attempt to drown him! ...Except, he has gills, so who cares? He'll be having a relaxing swim back to the exit.

squirtlerocks07 and I did an RP based on this.

S: one day, a strange looking bird with some gills was wandering deep into a temple he found, looking for treasure, along with him was a good buddy of his, a typhlosion, he's always been very shy but once he met this bird he was able to come out of his shell, they walk together side by side with the typhlosion growing nervous the deeper they go
"Um...b-b-buddy...are you sure nothing bad is gonna happen to us?? I'm very scared..."

L: The bird is as confident as when he and the typhlosion had entered, and gives his friend a reassuring smile. "Don't worry, we'll be fine! With how old this place is, I really doubt there's any working traps any more, they've probably all long since broken from age."

S: "I don't know about that... I'm sensing something bad about this place, and I just hope there's no booby traps here..."

L: "Well, I'M sensing treasure! This'll be worth the trip, we just need to get deeper in and find something good for us to grab!"

S: "I really don't think we should go deeper in bud, but fine...i-ill trust you this one time..."

L: Eventually, the two get all the way to the deepest point of the temple, finding themselves in a fairly large room with a pedestal on one end that's holding a fancy-looking carve piece of coral!

"Ah, see? Told you there'd be something!"

S: the typhlosion looks at the piece of coral and smiles at it just a bit
"I guess there is something, that might be valuable, go on and pick it up, then let's get the heck outta here"

L: "No problem, one sec." The bird goes over to the pedestal and grabs the coral. As he lifts it, he freezes up as there's an audible click, and several sections of the walls begin to open up...

"O-oh, um... M-maybe there's nothing in there any more?" The bird nervously looks around.

S: "W-what was that??" the typhlosion nervously looks around as well
"L-lets hope that's the case and that this isn't a booby trap!"

L: But, soon, the sound of rushing water becomes audible... And a ton of water begins pouring into the room, starting to flood it!

The bird actually looks a little bit relieved at that. "Okay, this isn't so bad, we can get out of here..."

S: the typhlosion's eyes go wide in fear and shock, both from the water and at what the bird just said
"Excuse me?!?! Not so bad?!?!? This is very bad!!!!! Water is pouring in!!! And we could drown!!!! I don't want that!!! Plus, I can't even swim!!!! Ahhhhh!!!!"

L: The bird pauses for a moment, seemingly considering something... Then he sighs. "We'll be okay. There's... Something I've been hiding from you."

He goes up to the typhlosion, gestures to his neck, and brushes some feathers aside, revealing a set of slits in his neck... "I have gills. Had them my whole life. I know it's weird, but we can talk later, after I've gotten you out of here."

S: the typhlosion's mouth drops open at that
"Y-you...have gills?! WHAT?!?! Oh my goodness... well that means you'll be safe from the water, BUT I WONT BE!!!!!"
the flood waters rise higher and higher by the minute
"I told you before, I can't swim! And I most certainly  don't wanna be underwater!!!"

L: "I'll carry you along, I'm really good at swimming, but there's nothing I can do to keep you from going underwater. Just, um... Try to cover your mouth and nose if you can, that should give us some more time."

S: "Ahhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!" the typhlosion was in a full blown panic as the waters continue to rise, he immediately jumps onto the bird's back when the waters were too high for him to stand
"I can't do that!!! Please I don't wanna submerge! Get us outta here!!!"

L: The bird struggles a little to stay upright from the typhlosion's weight, but he manages it, and starts to swim as fast as he can. "H-hang on tight, and try your best to calm down!"

S: but the typhlosion can't calm down at all, he's in a full blown panic attack as the water's level keeps going up rapidly, he hopes they will make it out somehow without having to submerge...but at this rate, it's not looking good...

L: As much as he wants to stop and try to help the typhlosion calm down, the bird knows it'd likely be best to keep going and minimize the amount of time they'll have to be underwater. The water keeps getting closer to the ceiling, just a few feet away now, as the bird tries to think of any points that might become air pockets...

S: "Oh no! The water is getting closer to the ceiling! Please have mercy!!! I don't wanna submerge! I don't wanna submerge!!!!" the typhlosion tears up, clutching tightly to the bird's back

L: "I-it's gonna be okay! Just focus on holding your breath once you have to, I'll find air as soon as I can after that!"

S: "No!!! Noooooo!!!!!!" the water levels are going higher, pretty soon there won't be any air left which is making the typhlosion go into a meltdown of fear, he probably won't even hold his breath when it's time and that's dangerous

L: As much as the bird wants to keep going, he can't stand letting the typhlosion be so terrified, and he pauses while he looks at them, putting a hand on their cheek. "Look at me. You're going to be okay, alright? This sucks, I know, but I'll get you out of here as soon as I can."

S: the typhlosion whimpers loudly, tears streaming down his face
"B-b-buddy, i-i-i just can't do this...the water is gonna submerge us at any moment and I can't hold my breath or anything like that!" only about 15 seconds left before the water submerged them and he's still very much in panic mode

L: The bird gives them a hug. "You CAN do this, I doubt you'll even need to hold your breath very long... Just close your eyes, and focus on me, okay?"

S: "Oh man...." he hugs the bird back, now it's eventually time for the typhlosion to hold his breath before the water reaches the top, but he still can't bring himself to do it

L: Knowing the typhlosion's going to drown if they don't hold their breath, the bird starts to get scared for them. "T-try to copy my breathing, you need to get ready." The bird takes slow, deep breaths, hoping the typhlosion will do the same.

S: the typhlosion takes those deep breathes in a panic, and just before the water submerges them, he covers his mouth with his hand, whimpering out a lot of bubbles as he can't properly hold his breath, his eyes squeezed shut as well

L: The bird's gills flare a bit as he takes his first breath of water, disliking that the typhlosion is definitely going to be jealous, and he holds their nose for them as he resumes swimming. "Try to stay calm, I'll find air as soon as I can..." He keeps his lungs full of air in case he needs to share some.

S: but not even 10 seconds and the typhlosion desperately needs to breathe, he was really bad at this stuff and just can't hold his breath, letting out all of his air even with his mouth and nose covered

L: "H-hang in there!" The bird frantically looks for any sort of air source as he swims, hoping there'll be one before it's too late...

S: it didn't look good at first, but eventually he finds an air pocket space just before the typhlosion could inhale the water, so once they surface in it, the typhlosion gasps very heavily for air, they still had some ways to go before they were home free, but at least the typhlosion can breathe

L: The bird calmly exhales his air, switching back to using his lungs. "This is so much worse than I thought it'd be, I'm sorry I dragged you into this..."

S: "Why must this happen to me?!?! Why?!?! I don't wanna go back down underwater!!! Please don't make me go back down! I beg of you!" the typhlosion looks at the bird with a pleading gaze

L: "I'm sorry, we don't have a choice... I doubt this place is gonna just drain out any time soon, and the air in here is gonna be used up eventually... We have to keep going."

S: "No buddy...I can't physically or mentally do this anymore...please! Don't make me go back underwater, I'm BEGGING YOU!!!!!!!" the typhlosion tears up even more

L: "We can't just stay here, or we're screwed for sure! As awful as it's gonna be, you have to dive at least one more time!"

S: "No!!! I can't! I can't even hold my breath because of how scared I am! I'm not doing it! And that's final!"

L: The bird sighs. "What, do you want me to just leave you here? Let you live out your last hour or so before the air runs out? No, if I have to, I'll come back with tape to cover your mouth and nose and then drag you out. I'm not letting you die in here."

S: "What?! I don't want you to do that! Dragging me out will just make this worse!!" the typhlosion sighs heavily
"I guess I do have to then....ugh!"

L: "Just take it fairly slow, we should still have a lot of time. Take some deep breaths for a while, and I'll do a countdown when I feel like it's time to get going."

S: "Ok..." the typhlosion closes his eyes and tries to calm down, but it's really hard for him

L: After a while, the bird hopes that it's time. "Okay, let's give this a shot. Get a deep breath... 3, 2, 1!" The bird slowly goes underwater, hoping the typhlosion won't panic again.

S: but the typhlosion does panic and he doesn't get that deep breath, not wanting to submerge at all, but once he did submerge he let's out all of his air again

L: The bird quickly surfaces as he hears all the bubbling. "You're supposed to actually get ready!"

S: the typhlosion gasps heavily
"I-im sorry! I'm so sorry! I just couldn't do it! I couldn't calm down!"

L: "I don't know what else to do at this point, I never thought even a fire type would be this terrified of water..." The bird gives the typhlosion a hug.

S: the typhlosion whimpers before he hugs the bird back, trying to relax, but he can't

"I'm sorry! Please forgive me!"

L: "It's okay, we still have a long time to figure something out..."

S: "Yeah...I'm just so sorry for being like this, I'm just so scared of going back under...you've known me for a long time, what's something that makes me very happy? Happy enough so that way I won't panic"

L: "Hm... I know you enjoy a good bonfire, but we can't exactly do that here... Oh, I remember you like when I sing to you, and I can still do that underwater! Do you think that might work?"

S: "Hmm, singing might work... especially if your singing one of my favorite songs... I guess we can give it try..."

L: "Okay, I'll do that... But only once you go underwater. I think that makes for a good incentive to get you down there again."

S:  the typhlosion sighs
"Alright alright... I'll give it one more try...."

L: "Go ahead and do some deep breathing like before, I've heard that helps people hold their breath longer. Can't really confirm that myself, obviously..."

S: "O-ok...I'll do that" the typhlosion closes his eyes and takes those deep breathes, trying to calm himself down again

L: After a while, the bird feels it's time to try again. "Alright, hopefully it'll go better this time. 3, 2, 1!" He starts going back underwater again.

S: the typhlosion this time holds his breath tightly and covers his mouth and nose before being submerged again, already whimpering loudly

L: As soon as the typhlosion's underwater, the bird starts to sing for them. While it does sound slightly different from normal due to him being underwater, he's doing a good job of doing one of the typhlosion's favorite songs as he begins to swim toward the temple's exit.

S: hearing one of his favorite songs, the typhlosion calms down just slightly, managing to keep his air in for the most part, but he's still nervous deep down

L: Figuring this is good enough, the bird keeps going, hoping this'll be the last time the two have to dive to get out of here.

S: the typhlosion's face is already fully red, grunting loudly in strain as he can't hold his breath for very long at all, bubbles escape him quite a bit

L: While he wishes he could offer any words of encouragement, the bird doesn't even pause the song, knowing that might not go well. He still gives the typhlosion a couple pats in an attempt to calm them down.

S: the typhlosion is starting to get scared, hoping they are will escape soon, there's no more air pockets so the bird will have to hurry up, the typhlosion's face is fully blue within 2 minutes, grunting more in painful strain

L: Getting close to the end of the song now, the bird swims as fast as he can, knowing the temple's exit isn't that far from where they are now. He can only hope the typhlosion can hold their breath long enough.

S: "BLBLBLBLBLBLBL!!!!!!!!!!" the typhlosion couldn't hold it in anymore and let's out all of his air in a fury of bubbles, he just barely manages to cover his mouth to avoid inhaling water, but he won't be able to keep this up for much longer

L: "H-hang in there!" The bird says that without thinking, before quickly going back to the song, though he's having a hard time focusing on it at this point. The exit has finally come into view now, and the bird's going straight toward it.

S: just before the typhlosion inhales water, they manage to make it to the exit, it's full of air as the typhlosion collapses on the ground and gasps heavily for air, coughing
"Oh...never again! NEVER....AGAIN!!!!"

L: Even the bird is panting some from how much he'd exerted himself. "I-I'm so sorry I put you through this... G-gonna be more careful from here on!"

S: the typhlosion sits up and glares at the bird
"You owe me BIG time for this! Now let's get outta here!"

L: "I did manage to keep that coral thing, so most of the money I get for it is gonna go to you... Anyway, yeah, let's get going." The bird helps the typhlosion up.

S: "No, all the money is going to me, you ain't keeping a single cent after what I just went through!"
the typhlosion then walks off with the bird
