The strains of the niko filled the grove, giving the blossoms around an ethereal beauty. Abigale sat on the blanket as she set out the picnic spread. Typically this would be one of the busiest times of year for the Violet Sapphire, with the spring dance being one of the most popular attractions. While Abigale would get to enjoy the local cherry blossoms and celebrate them in her dance, she longed to visit the sakura capital of the world: Japan. With her being the star of the spring exhibition though, that was always a non-starter.

This year was a bit different, however. The Sapphire was an old club and, though popular, was in need of some desperate renovations and upgrades. Despite the best laid plans of mice and cats, the work on the burlesque stage happened to fall during the first part of spring. This meant that Abigale finally had the time to travel. Upon arrival it didn't take her long to find the perfect place to spend her vacation. It seemed like a simply magical place, and she couldn't say no to her gracious host. In fact, they were so well prepared, it might have seemed that this was all planned in advanced...

It's March! It's the beginning of spring! Anyone who knows me or has been following me for some time knows what that means! It's time for my annual sakura commission! As has become tradition, I once again employed LuthienNightwolf to bring my desire to life. And I figured it being cherry blossom season, it only stood to reason that I get Kanzan's first official commission!

I, like Abigale, long to visit Japan during the blossom season and enjoy hanami, but for now that remains a dream. At least I can live vicariously through art!

I was fortunate enough to spend 26 months in northeastern Honshu and was fortunate enough to enjoy a Cherry Blossom Festival on the grounds outside of Hirosaki castle.  Trust me when I say that it was a wonderful experience.  There is plenty of sake to be drunk, and some of the people enjoy it.  (In fact, it's likely the gentleman wearing the butterfly wings and sitting in the tree has probably had a couple of cups of sake.  LOL)  I'd love to visit Japan again in the spring and visit one of the numerous Cherry Blossom Festivals held all over the country.
