I'm not familiar with the game, is all. I have no context. And I just find weapons like this a lot more interesting when there's serious downsides and possible complications to it's use.

The whole thing is you evade using this because it 100% without fail costs the life of an ally to use, and thats devastating to the games main characters,who are all children thrust into a war to save thier country, boldened by the Taranis, a megatank that responded to thier wish
As for its damage raaadius--- i think its the manner of, its a massive beam in front of the tank the allies are in, and charged with life force probably seeks what the life wants to defeat to keep thier friends safe and naught else
Its probably abit muddled, in Fuga 2 theres another Soul cannon thing that dosent cost life but does still do the same, and in cutscenes there was a cavernous crater in the shape of that ones beam, we can deduce that the Soul Cannon might do the same, but it was never shown to do so, maybe Fuga 2 wanted you to think about that when you saw the Managarms damage heh x3
