It's soo cool to see your version of Redwall Abbey^^ It's very close to how I pictured it in my own head!
Chucky

Thanks! I looked around for various images of it, including floor plans. Most were kind of inconsistent, so I went with how I pictured it from the books and what I saw in the series.

I admittedly don't think I've seen any images of it except from what was on the covers, and that reminds me I still haven't seen the animated series either! I should check that out!
Chucky

Definitely watch the animated series! They did a good job on it!

I have the redwall DVD and Martin the warrior, but I still miss the recipes they used to do after the animated parts when it was on PBS. After every episode, they used to have a word from Brian Jacques about the creatures, then a little education comparing medieval times to that part of the story, even for recipes on what they ate...

I vaguely remember that. I only saw a few episodes on TV, that's how I knew it existed. At the time I had only heard Redwall referenced by a few people in the furry fandom, I hadn't read any of the books. You can buy the Redwall Cookbook online. Some people in the Redwall Facebook group have actually used it and the recipes turned out pretty good.

Nelvana, the ones who made the series, also made a Windows theme pack and some wallpapers using images from the show.

Edit: Yes I have searched with "Wayback" but the files have gone.

If you want to check for yourself the old page is
http://redwalltv.com/downloads.html
put that in "Wayback".... so close and yet so far away.)

I guess it's been bleached by the sun?

I'm not prepared to dig into the archives yet, but why were they going this way again?
Chucky

He was curious about Gwendolyn's story of how she came from Mossflower, and how all the other Mossflorians made their way to Cascadia a few years later. How much truth is there to it?
MviluUatusun

Generally, basalt is from dark gray to black in color.  Because it's the densest rock known, it's very difficult for the sun to bleach it.
Chucky

Basalt is all over the place here in the Northwest. I figured it would be a common building material for castles and such.
MviluUatusun

That makes perfect sense to me.  I know that European castles were mainly built with granite since it was the most common hard stone in Europe.
Longnight

Probably just that there are no red stones native to the region to build with. Gotta use what's there.
Chucky

Yes, that's correct.

...Was that a self-poke at the comic’s grayscale art style?

Because if it was, good one. We all have to laugh at ourselves once in a while.
Chucky

No it wasn't, but that is funny. I'll get to the whole, "it's not red" thing in a few pages.

They are, but Jeremy likes to be just a little closer.

Just a note on your spelling. It's 'plaque' not 'plak.'
Chucky
Thanks. I wasn't sure because every time I typed 'plaque' into Google it always referenced the stuff that forms on teeth and in arteries. So I figured it was the other spelling.

Those poor innocent youths.  They didn't realize that the name "Redstone" didn't necessarily refer to the color of the stone used to build the Abbey.
Chucky

The Redstone reference will be made clear in a few pages.

Some familiar names dropped there. Also, I see two pairs of cute buns that need a good spank!

Well Chucky wants to know how much of Gwendolyn's story is real, how much trouble could he get himself into?

Now THAT'S a background!!
VERY nice! Did you do that all by hand or did you use
a computer program / photo to use as a model. Either way
I'm VERY impressed! Can't wait to see what the inside looks like
and what the guys will find.

Also ya "Dat Butt!" ;D
Chucky

Thanks! I did a rough sketch in pencil on paper. Then I went over the scan using Photoshop. So it was pretty much done from scratch, very time consuming. The subsequent pages will probably be slow for the same reason.

Why the hell would rats take one look at those walls and think "Oh hey. Yeah my army of practically starving idiot vermin can totally take these high walls." What year is it supposed to be anyway?
Chucky

Because they thought they were all gonna get rich. Present year is 6549.
