Ah, the Hospitality Industry needs more Mrs. Landwoods. I like my sleep, and at one furcon I deliberately hid my reason for staying at the hotel from the front desk, so that they wouldn't put me in the convention block.
At another furcon, I accepted a room in the convention block facing a parking lot. Heh-heh...I had to endure a 90-minute tailgate party below my window, and a further 45 minutes of a couple's break-up argument. Being part of the con, I knew I'd be a total hypocrite if I complained to the front desk.

Yeah, if you have the money you can have an all stone building. The Cozy Redcedar Inn has a stone exterior with an wooden interior, so soundproofing is definitely minimal.
