Background/History

Betrayal: But as the pup grew, so did the signs. At first, she told herself the pale hue on his nose was nothing more than a rash, a harmless discoloration that would fade with time. Yet as it rounded and softened, the truth clawed at the edges of her denial. He was not pure. He was a mistake. And in her world, mistakes were not forgiven. Determined to erase her shame before the tribe could cast her out, she took the boy deep into the forest. She had carried him within her, had nursed him, had whispered to him in the quiet of the night—and yet, when the moment came, she did not hesitate. She lunged, fangs bared, claws flashing. Swing did not want to fight. He pleaded, begged for her to stop, to see him as her son and not a curse. But the mother he had known was gone, replaced by something cold, something afraid. And when the choice was death or survival, instinct took hold. The battle was short, brutal. When it ended, the forest was silent, save for the ragged breaths of a child who was no longer a child. His enemies see no mercy, only the cold efficiency of a predator who has nothing left to lose.
