Owen is a kid who’s always been a menace – he’s a bully, a slacker, and terribly selfish.

One day at a school field trip to a museum of magickal relics, his class is shown an ancient pagan artefact — a head-dress of sorts. Hundreds of years ago, this artefact would test an individual’s worthiness of the sacred role of “protector of nature” — and would grant them great primal power if they were chosen.
However, Owen is only half paying attention.

The artefact was assumed to have become inert long ago. Apparently not however, as the artefact decides to choose Owen as a new protector of nature, giving him magickal nature powers, and also turning him into a sheep.

In the times the artefact was in use, hundreds or thousands of people would wear it before it chose someone— making Owen the first “worthy” protector in centuries.
In it’s time, this would have been considered a great honour. As to why it chose Owen specifically, well, no-one seems to know.

Owen can remove the artefact from his head, but he cannot abandon it — it has a tendency to pop back onto his head if he leaves it too far away.

Owen can now talk to animals and plants, and even sense their feelings. He can also cause plants to grow rapidly. Plants also spring up from his hoofsteps while outside — a constant irritation.
Ancient protectors would gain further power and insight via training and communion with nature—though the records of precisely what that means, have been largely lost to time. Regardless, Owen does not care to wield his “useless” powers in any capacity.

Ever since his change, Owen has not been acting the bully at all. Other kids just cannot take him seriously given his loss of height, his sheepish appearance, and having been magickally granted “Tree-hugger powers”. The whole experience has shaken his usual obnoxious confidence, and made him very grumpy — basically all the time.
The one silver lining for him is that he no longer needs to wear glasses.

I’ve always been really inspired by the art of BriskSunrise (EriSubasa on FA), and decided that I’d try something more similar to their format (which they’ve gotten ridiculously good at btw)—they have lots of Post TF(+often TG) work with all sorts of characters and lore tying them together, but always with a really fun idea in every piece. I like! Also their output is friggin crazy how do they do it.

So I thought since I have a lot of ideas for characters that I’d give this a try, since it can be difficult to convey this stuff in a usual “story” format—though I am now *mildly* concerned the final result looks… a bit too similar if you squint.
Anyways, If you like the same kind of "post-tf exploration" stuff that I do you'll find a lot to enjoy in Brisk's work, so please go look at all of their art and also read the descriptions too k thx

Trying to remember how the hell I ever did this—I think I maybe don’t enjoy Procreate a lot? I always end up compiling the final image in CSP ‘cause it’s just so much easier for aligning things cleanly, and it’s not nearly as strict on layer limits.
My drawings also always end up with a sketchy quality, which… isn’t *necessarily* bad—the pressure to have “clean lineart” is something I’ve never really understood, or been able to achieve, even—but it never feels like sketching—meaning, fast—my art ends up taking waaaaay longer than I’d like no matter what I do.
I keep saying it, but I need to set lower standards for myself—To paraphrase a quote about creativity I really like: “The worst thing an artist can be is a lazy perfectionist, so strive to be a motivated half-ass.”
