*hugs tightly* even if it was a pet, it still hurts because they are part of the family and you care and love them, but you did the right thing in saying your goodbyes and telling him he was a good boy. I bet he was happy to hear that and that you loved him so much. But don't forget the wonderful time you had with him

This is such a beautiful picture set and the perfect quote to accompany it. This overwhelmed me with emotions and tears immediately filled my eyes.
My heart goes out to you and anyone who has ever known the pain of saying good-bye to their best fluffy friend. I still remember, all too clearly, when I had to make that call for my best friend and the enormous hole that no longer having him beside me left in my life. The pain does eventually fade but the memories live on forever.
As time passed I eventually opened up my heart again and adopted a border collie, they truly are a loving and unique breed. Without a doubt Oreo knows and appreciates every ounce of the love you have for him.
Hang in there and feel the way you need to feel, it will start to hurt less.

Oh gosh, I'm so sorry! I lost my Windy back in September, apparent old age, and her daughter, Jill, just went into total kidney failure on December 20th, and I had to make The Decision. I hope your heart can heal, I know it'll be a while before mine can

As a dog dad who's had to do the same thing with my big ole German shepherd, it doesn't get easier... we just forget about the pain. That may sound wrong or cold but really listen to what I mean first, what I mean is that we have forgotten the pain of that they were in and the potential pain that they would've gone through as we remember the thousands of great memories and how we'll be able to tell our other good boys and good girls about them... and we all remember that at the end of everything... we'll be reunited with them. We'll see them and their wagging tails, their floppy tongues, their arrow pointed ears with one that flops hilariously while they run.
We forget that they were in pain and hold dear the memories of them goofing off, breaking things, chasing things, snoozing, and just being themselves because those were some of the best times and why would someone want to remember their friends hurting.
I know that you'll heal from this but if you ever need someone to talk to, feel free to reach out.
