Last year I made a grievous error. In my interpretation of Swanky Kong I said I was aiming to make a 'Wario to DK's Mario', forgetting at that time that Donkey Kong already has a Wario-esque wannabe in the character of Manky Kong. Not that I necessarily blame myself for forgetting about Manky, as he only appeared in a handful of levels in the original Donkey Kong Country before he was entirely dropped, but he was there and honestly I think he should make a return... but maybe that's just my undying love of the evil twin trope!
I like to think that Manky Kong was some obnoxious little cretin who kept trying to ride DK's metaphorical coattails until the King of Swing had enough and sent the orangutan packing -- unfortunately this would lead the Kremlings right to Donkey Kong's banana hoard with Manky Kong having lead them there as a means of revenge, landing him an honorary role in the Kremling Krew. (hence his snazzy little Kremling tie clip) Unfortunately after their loss, the Kremlings couldn't get Manky Kong to leave, and now he's their constant burden to bare!
I just think this makes an interesting little dynamic and give a little more to this inexplicable character who was forgotten as soon as he arrived. Although ironically, it's his enigmatic state in the series that makes me gravitate to him and want to see more of him. Funny how that is.
