I drew this in October 2018 after finishing Wolfenstein The New Colossus, having previously gotten it for Christmas the previous year and installed it on my PS4 in March. I finally got around to playing it in the wake of RDR2 and the Spyro Reignited Trilogy then expected to come out, so I knew I had to make room for them on the console's memory space. While initially, I had fun battling Nazis in the resistance-held U-Boat whilst rolling around in a wheelchair, I then got frustrated with two subsequent combat missions due to how limited BJ's base health was. I didn't realize then that the game really liked the light stealth mechanics of New Order and New Blood (the latter of which I've yet to play), so BJ feels like he's made out of toilet paper compared to TNO.
Anyway, this idea was sparked by hearing the phenomenal main menu music and made me remember an idea I had of a Soviet Victory Wolfenstein AU. With this game's concept of battling in an America ruled by the Nazis, I thought about what if B.J. and the Kreisau circle were battling a Communist America instead (less Man in the High Castle and more that Amerika miniseries from back in the eighties); so, I thought of a USSA encompassing the American nations and Canada, ruled over by Earl Browder and the CPUSA with an iron fist. The regime would promote a mixture of Leninist-Stalinist rhetoric with a socialist American patriotic doctrine ("Communism with American characteristics"), encouraging the American people to be supportive of the new state and ruthlessly crack down on the widespread dissent and resistance with their secret police and the work of the paramilitary Continental Army, a legion of fanatical college students, former soldiers, and Party diehards. They work to support the conscript Regular Army in dealing with rebels, since the Party leadership doesn't trust the armed forces entirely, hence the consistent presence of Commissioners, watching and inspiring the troops.
The Continental militants seen here are just a generic Communist paramilitary appearance, vaguely inspired by the Republican militias during the Spanish Civil War, while also having elements of Vietnam-era US Armed Forces uniforms. For the guy with the shotgun, I based his armor off of the Flak Jacket character model in the COD Black Ops multiplayer and originally I wanted a metallic face mask (similarly to those worn by the Nazi soldiers in the game), but I instead decided to go with a gas mask instead. For the guns, I again made them Frankenstein-esque designs; the assault rifle is a Sieg Automatic Rifle crossed with the AR-16 prototype rifle, the shotgun is basically the Ithaca Stakeout from BlOps with the wire-frame stock of the Paratrooper variant of the M1 carbine (which I based off of someone's design for a Dieselpunk shotgun), and the SMG, while you can't really see it all that well, is supposed to be an M3 Grease Gun with elements of the S&W M76.
