The winter months begin in Aderon, and like always, with them comes many festivals dedicated to celebrating whatever that weird human holiday was called. "C-H-R-I-S-T-M-A-S or something like that. The name meant nothing to the pokemon of Aderon, but there were many little traditions that did. Namely...the mistletoe, where two pokemon underneath it were supposed to have intercourse. Right? Probably was how it went. Or the idea of giving gifts to those you wanted to bang.
The sex focused pokemon of Aderon only knew it as a holiday to celebrate and do such naughty things for the most part, but it did invite other traditions, namely the idea of festivals!
And one such festival on the grass continent was one Seval frequented often. Selling tons of her back stock and getting to offload all her unsold items made it an ideal chance to finally make some profit off things most would never buy. And with her reputation on her home continent being very high, it was easy to get a stall at one, even if most pokemon in Aderon wouldn't even consider giving a spot to a female.
But Seval was different, and she was popular. And that popularity is something she did not want to squander. But even still, despite all of that, the green eyed reptile desired to increase her profits year over year. An act that only proved harder and harder as time went. Increasing the cost of her goods was always a risky endeavor, and without the gator helping to secure goods, she often fell back on hiring out teams for dungeons once more.
This in turn, left her with countless piles of spikes, gravel rocks, various seeds and orbs that no one would ever buy. Who on earth actually purchases things like a hail or pounce orb anyway?!
The lamenting over items that just stuck around eventually gave her an devious, but dastardly idea. Presents were...by and large, unknown to all but the one who wrapped them. So...why not use that? She could offload the items, all while acting like it was a gift of generosity! And make money in the process! Thus, getting some boxes and wood, pretty paper and other items for color, Seval went to work, making a ton of "surprise boxes" that would hold tons of items, usually ones that struggled to sell, but occasionally something useful like a reviver seed or petrify orb. These boxes were quickly labeled as fun "surprise boxes" where you could potentially get a ton of good dungeon loot, all for a base price of purchasing it. A "Loot box" if you will.
This time however, Seval wanted to make sure it was more than just her doing it, in case something small, purple and annoying showed up like before. Using her contacts, Seval put out a job request to her main benefactors, the frost demons, inquiring help to sell the items, on the premise that she was the first to consider the idea.
Potential profit margins for the item were skeptical, but with no reason to not try, Melchom gave the green light on the idea, sending Ryme to help sell more of them, since a salazzle would be a good way to market to those who like the idea of a pretty girl selling them products. Ryme grimaced at the idea of it, but with no option to say no, she got dressed into something that would be cute and warm, before heading out and helping with the festival.
With no little furred demon in sight, the plan went off without a hitch, making Seval and the frost demons themselves an unprecedented amount of money in the process. The concept of loot boxes was a massive success, and one the frost demons themselves were keen to adopt immediately.
