*blinks* a bladed mace....basicly a four headed axe....far less comon then there blunt counterpart as keeping the edges sharp can get tough and so the cost of maintnence on them to keep them as much slicey as smashy is hard...and if you're just gonna let the edge stay blunt you might as well just have bought a normal mace or club

but in a magic universe with magic materials that can stay sharp forever....it sudenly becomes aloooot more practicle and an earth pony would certainly have the strength to use one to its full extent, and shes even gone with a polearm version to allow her greater reach compensating for her own realtivly small size...

To be fair that's what the points are for.  Puncturing.  Get those blades gashed in then rake/shave forward or backward.  Besides you just need the right momentum.  You can use the pommel for bashing and the point for puncturing.  Douse some poison on the point and you're good to go.  You just need the right technique with every swing, reversal, switch up, grip position shift, and handle twist.
