🐾 I wanted to start this album strong... and, though I may not have done that per se, I still like how this song sounds. Unfortunately, I'm starting this album with a song in a musical trope that I was more into when I first started but have quickly realized isn't the best to keep listeners listening throughout — SO, IF YOU HAPPEN TO BE READING THIS, KEEP LISTENING! IT PICKS UP AT 1:00, I SWEAR!
Yes, I have always enjoyed orchestrating this song. It has such a beautiful chord progression that I just had to sing it! This song is always one of the softer, relaxed religious holiday songs and I wanted to see if I could spruce that up a bit without detracting too much from the song's overall tone. As such, I wanted to introduce the piece in a similar style to what most iterations of the song are or would be, chill, slow-paced, and so on... and then it gets into drum and bass! (Or, at least, my attempt at drum and bass).
🐾 This song also features my sister, my boyfriend, and my mother on the "response" vocals. My mother participated in that part but her audio glitched pretty badly and I couldn't get her to record her part again, so instead I just replaced it with a pitched-up version of my voice.
Lyrics: Said the night wind to the little lamb Do you see what I see? (Do you see what I see?) Way up in the sky, little lamb Do you see what I see? (Do you see what I see?) A star, a star, dancing in the night With a tail as big as a kite With a tail as big as a kite
Said the little lamb to the shepherd boy Do you hear what I hear? (Do you hear what I hear?) Ringing through the sky, shepherd boy Do you hear what I hear? (Do you hear what I hear?) A song, a song high above the trees With a voice as big as the sea With a voice as big as the sea
Said the shepherd boy to the mighty king Do you know what I know? (Do you know what I know?) In your palace warm, mighty king Do you know what I know? (Do you know what I know?) A Child, a Child shivers in the cold Let us bring him silver and gold Let us bring him silver and gold
Said the king to the people everywhere Listen to what I say! (Listen to what I say!) Pray for peace, people, everywhere Listen to what I say! (Listen to what I say!) The Child, the Child sleeping in the night He will bring us goodness and light He will bring us goodness and light
