She undoubtedly did have a legitimate concern about the censorship issue. However, as for taxes paid for the book, she was worried over something that has almost no effect on each taxpayer.
A $35 book divided among 400,000 county taxpayers comes out to be less than 9/1,000 of a penny per taxpayer. In order for the county residences to notice a dollar or two increase in their taxes, the librarian would have to wheelbarrow every book in the library out to the dumpster.
