Hmmm, i feel like I'm possibly being more critical than I should be, but is a family still poor when the child has a smartphone?  It is cute though with the child's legs flopped over their parent's.

Maybe this only one thing which they can buy ^ ^' Smartphones can be cheap too x3

True, and they gave it to the child so she wouldn't feel left out or bullied at school, and so she can have and share some fun.

I think it's more likely that the girl wanted a smart phone, so mom saved money for months in order to get her one for her birthday or Christmas or something.  Save every little bit she can so she can give her little girl a special present and make it a day she won't forget.

smartphones lost theyr "expensive status symbolism" years ago, you can get cheap smartphones for literaly 50 bucks new or even less used

I was gonna say this. Go to Wal Mart, trac phones are smart phones now.

I got my most recent one, samsung s24+ free, after holding on to an s10+ for so damn long the case I had when I got the thing, literally fell apart. Gotta love free upgrades.

With the advent of the internet basically being REQUIRED nowadays for anything, especially JOB SEARCHING/Applying, a lot of governments will issue a family a smartphone.

Sorry for raising a potentially tone-deaf point.  I guess I'm still used to smartphones being expensive if you don't pay for them on credit or some such.  My own current phone is second-hand and I was forced to get it only because some critical apps stopped supporting the OS of my previous phone. *growls softly*

Thanks for keeping the debate friendly though and setting me right.

You can be poor without being untidy, and you can be untidy without being poor.

I should probably clear things up, they aren't poor, just can't be bothered cleaning or tidying up, lol
Came out looking wonderful :)

Such a cute pic. I grew up similarly so I vibe with it. Though instead of a smartphone I had a Gameboy color I found on the sidewalk whose batteries were held in by tape.

OH. MY. G O D .

This piece... talk about fine art, my goodness.
This hits so very close to home for me... remarkable. So relatable. Wow, my heart is simply enlargened by the sincerity and love presented between this determined mother and her adorable daughter. Sure, times may be tough often but as long as they maintain a well-structured bond and trust in one another, they can overcome even the lowest low-points imaginable.

Thank you and bless you eternally for sharing this marvelous commission!! I'm literally touched by how emotionally relevant this piece is to me. So sweet. ❤️
