no.2: Count Orlok - Nosferatu

When we think of good, classic vampires, our minds tend to go towards Count Dracula - comparatively when I think of runner-ups, I think of Count Orlok. Always the bride's maid, never the bride ole' Orlok. Sure, he may have beaten Dracula to the punch, cinema wise, but he'll never had the wide spread appeal that Vlad has. He'll always be the second fiddle vampire and I think that's what makes him appealing ironically. I guess it's wanting to root for the underdog.

While I could have gone for Dracula, I feel Drac himself has become more than just a classic entity. Dracula is a whole entity unto his own, spanning so many generations and incarnations that you can't tie him to one thing. (I for one always associate him with the Castlevania series more then I do Bram Stoker or Bela Lugosi) Orlok however lives perpetually in the black-and-white era of the 20's, creeping around door and generally being goofy looking. He earns a special place in our hearts, even if it's mostly to laugh at him because of an old SpongeBob joke! (that I couldn't resist referencing) The buck-toothed vampire deserves a shout out in his own right... just not too big of one.
