Halloween Countdown

no.3: The Hell Priest "Pinhead" - Hellraiser

One of the things I set out to do with this countdown was to focus on drawing the character more so then just the actor. While it's the actors who bring them to life, this would allow me more artistic freedom, especially as I'm simply bad at drawing people realistically. Some characters I deviated more from the source material to do this then others, but the one I definitely did so the most on was Pinhead here. Now don't get Doug Bradley is incomparable in the role and his look from the 80's film is truly iconic but if I'm being truly honest, I can't deny that a big, ghostly white guy in gimp gear is a little on the silly for someone known as 'the Hell Priest'!

I wanted to convey something that truly showed how eldritch the Cinobites are - "Demons to some, angels to others." On the flips side, while the remake had it's issues, I far more preferred the overall look they gave to Jamie Clayton's portrayal of Pinhead. It seemed far more inline with something out of the warped mind of Clive Barker to me. The concept of Cenobites using their own skin for clothing created a far more striking look to me and immediately lets you know the sheer extent of where the Cenobites will take pain and pleasure. So with this in mind I took traits from both and cobbled something new from it that I personally really enjoy. I do apologize if you were hoping for a more traditional Pinhead, I just hope all of you Hellraiser fans out there enjoy this at the very least.
