This is an optional bit of lore for my "No-drown-death" setting. Whether to consider it canon is entirely up to personal preference.
Whenever anyone in that universe holds their breath, a breath meter appears above their head after a moment, tracking how much longer they can hold their breath. Each meter's design is unique to each person, and never changes. The breath meters aren't solid, and always face directly toward whoever's looking at them, making them always readable regardless of angle. While no one really knows why these exist, most people don't mind either, although sometimes people get jealous of the designs others' meters have.
