Unicorns are calm and down to earth creatures. But they all go through a young phase where they are aggressive. It usually starts when they're 14-15 and can last till they're 17. It's kinda their version of puberty where their magic is unstable. But Shadow doesn't know Sukos a halfling so he just sees a teenager with anger issues. He doesn't want to deal with it so enough disciplining eventually calms Suko down sooner. With literally no one to watch over the young prince, he's in Shadows care now. Meaning anything can happen..

Ok, there's a lot for me to say about this(when I don't)and what you've explained. Suko being in his 'rebellious' phase cause he's hitting puberty essentially kinda funny and cute in some extension but since now he's in total care of Shadow it became just dangerous and I'm talking for Suko. As you said Shadow does see just a rebellious teenager and I guess cause there's no one to explain to him about unicorn's biology and culture. But then I thought he wouldn't still cared even if there was someone explaining to him how things goes with unicorns. He's really a bad king since he didn't understand or know about his new peoples he's going to rule but on the other hand he didn't want to rule, just destroy so is not important for him. Poor Suko, I think his puberty just lasted that first time he had it, meanwhile Shadow unlocked another kink for him while punishing Suko. And I want to say that if it wasn't for Shadow bad track of handling things so fat, it wasn't a bad thing for him to try and control Suko since he's so powerful and being unstable would have meant harm for Suko's himself and people around him. Too bad it wasn't for really concern from Shadow's part. Sigh. Oh, and I saw the end of Trial too and wow, didn't know Shadow could eat other beings...I mean his fangs and claws should be a clear reminder that he's a carnivore but yeah, I guess it just passed my mind. Just one question, someone said Shadow could have at least kept Suko since he can bear children even with other species, and with all the time, well is correct to say hours Shadow pratically had sex with Suko I'm kinda surprised that Suko didn't get pregnant...(well with all the tragedy in his life I guess you didn't want him more miserable) or maybe Shadow couldn't get him pregnant? I was talking to a friend and honestly if Shadow knew of unicorn biology he could've totally used Sukos rage to his advantage. But he was a teenager once and also had rage himself so he just assumes all teens have an angry phase.
As for the pregnancy stuff, not every time is guaranteed a pregnancy. Maybe Shadow did impregnate him but because of the abuse from the facility he lost it. Many theories that the first birth Suko had was Shadows but it's unknown. I like a mystery so even I won't try and tell :3
