In 1987, Irem released R-Type in Japanese arcades with a North American release soon following.
Despite Nintendo being the North American publisher of R-Type, there was never an official port released on the NES. Even more ironically, all home ports for the game was on pretty much every system but the NES! Instead, an unofficial port by the name of "Magic Dragon" was made by some company named "Magicseries Corp." and it sounded like this... http://youtu.be/t7NLRPzKlI8 ...Horrible.
