Mild spoiler ahead for a future book world state - read at your own risk:
The war was over. Taylor and her family were now staying among the reptiles. However, commerce was booming and reconstruction was underway to rebuild the flagging nation. Taylor was at the forefront of that industrial renaissance. Mammals and even some birds flocked south to be among the reptiles to start new lives in the wake of devastation and utter loss of home. Everyone seemed to have banded together to forge a new country built from the ashes of war.
Taylor become a pivotal fixture in that campaign to draw new people into the country and was treated like a celebrity when out and about. It hadn't gotten so bad yet to the point they needed to disguise her and protect her whenever she left the home, but it was getting increasingly harder to remain unnoticed. Not even little children were afraid of Ahya anymore and some would run up to Taylor, recognizing her and began petting Ahya and trying to play with her. She was no toy, however, and Taylor would politely, but firmly tell them to not encourage her to do something drastic. Ahya didn't mind the attention though.
