The side paddle steamer "Devil's Paw".

This steamer is the creation of kenoscope and has been the subject of several pieces of literature he has authored. I designed the ship herself...granted she always seems to be in a constant state of fluctuation design wise.

Originally built as the steamer 'Sea Fairy'. When she had her belly opened on the Chattahoochee River she was sold to the English artist Miss Penny Rose Navita. Penny had her raised, taken into dry-dock, repaired and refitted, the mouse renaming her Devils Paw. She is a blue water side wheeler that can navigate some deep rivers and currently runs from Apalachicola to Habana Cuba via way of Cedar Key Florida, with an all female crew. Occasionally she is chartered by the Western & Atlantic as a connection with trains such as the Flying Dutchman out of Chattanooga, steaming down the Tennessee River to the gulf. Mostly during the summer season.

It's been a while since I've taken a look at this steamer, and after re-reading some of Kenoscope's literature (Which is hard to find and written well before I really started developing the W&A world, so the events within are very isolated outside of a few token nods to the railroad company. Not to say that's a bad thing. The Paw is very much her own story.) I decoded to give another go at drawing the ship. Since the last time I drew her, all the way back in 2015, I've done a lot more research on 19th century steamers. So, i concocted something that sticks to all the written details while being more akin to a steamer of the time period. In the end, I'm super pleased with the outcome.

Once day, we need to return to the Paw and see how life is going for her and her crew. Especially now that I'm writing the world of the W&A and fleshing it out in more and more detail.

One day....
