There's a series on YouTube called "Diminish." The short version is the narrator/player, Will, is playing a game his sister made specifically for him before she died to help him deal with his emotions after she's gone. And it's a rage game, of all genres.
At one point, there's an area where he encounters a black skull that charges and kills him on contact. In a later playthrough, he finds he can approach the skull before it attacks and converse with it. It's name is Justin and it's only doing what it's programmed to do. The player character, Apollo, understands they're both bound by the game and says there's no hard feelings. That doesn't stop Justin from killing Apollo over and over as Will tries to progress in the game.
