Whether by happenstance or by some concerted effort, all worlds eventually die.
The planet known as Haven was no exception to this rule.
Through no fault of the people, Haven's gods fell, one by one, to a mysterious illness.
Without gods to govern the flow of elements or time itself, the planet quickly became inhospitable, the ripple effects spreading outward in a wave of death and desolation. People fled to major cities-- the last strongholds in this rapidly decaying world--, or died trying.
The people had technology, and they knew of space travel. It was their only way to escape the impending apocalypse, and so they made a spacefaring craft which could sustain three hundred lives.
They filled it with their smallest and brightest members of society (mostly rodents, as their small bodies meant they would consume less food and take up less space overall), and sent them away.
Haven withered away and died-- and all of its people with it--, a cold rock floating eerily still in the indifferent void of outer space. All that remained were a few stalwart trees, massive and sprawling things which now desperately clung to life in this stagnant new era.
The Curator saw these happenings, even cataloging them, but overall unconcerned by what had occurred.
They planted a new seed, letting life slowly flow back into the land, eventually beginning a new cycle.
Meanwhile, the spacecraft which carried these displaced peoples eventually found its way.
They discovered and commandeered a seemingly abandoned space station, slowly working to rebuild it. The space station was eventually made capable of supporting life once more, and in time, it grew in size and scope. Soon it became a bustling spaceport, at the heart of which lay a city filled with the now-prosperous children of Haven.
Neo-Haven became known far and wide for its unusual people with their strange culture and curious customs, attracting species from all around the galaxy to do trade and build new lives of their own in this unique community.
In this way, displaced rodent populations also began to colonize new worlds as well, learning to coexist with the natives and intermingling (as well as interbreeding) with them. From these unions, new races were born.
Okay, decided to try sharing a little worldbuilding with y'all. :')) I've been sitting on this character concept for the better part of a year, but until recently I was kind of struggling to turn it into something cohesive.
I don't know much about this girl as an individual, but at this point it just feels so nice to finally give her a proper design... and to draw something a little different from my usual fare. I also don't know much about her setting as a whole, but whatever, I'll figure it out eventually (just like her name, LOL).
