Phew…..there’s nothing that brings peace and quiet quite like the night, right? With the day having been so sufficiently seized, with no reason to rise and shine when not even the ever so busy sun is doing the same, all that’s left for all in those noisy and bustling neighborhoods to do is simply bask in that soothing……serene…….silence. Despite what that darkness may denote, despite the uncertainty those conditions connote, what’s nothing but certain is that scarcely a single sound, besides the breeze so gently blowing beside that beautiful midnight blue backdrop, will be heard along the horizon.
Though you see, silence isn’t the sole splendor so sweetly offered after sunset, for along with being so easy on the ears, so too is the evening just as easy on the eyes with sights still so eye-catching. Sure, as sublime as that sun is in all its lovely luminousness, as easy as it is to look at its illuminating endeavors in a positive light, even its often benevolent brightness can be quite overbearing when its gleam glares through our windows and tells us it’s time to get up when we’d rather rest a little bit longer. But then, there’s the moon, giving off but a gentle glimmer in skies given the grace to be dimmed by dark, softly suggesting we lighten up with its softer lunar light and ready ourselves for the sleep night time is so known for.
waddle….waddle…waddle
Ah, and there’s little Emily seemingly readying herself for the same as she waddles up the stairs and shows night needs no support from the sun to bring about such welcoming warmth. Adorably adorning the toddler’s top half is an aqua blue pajama shirt perfectly suited for sleepy time, attire whose cool colors can’t capture how wonderfully warm its flannel fabrics feel on her fur, and as though clothing whose coziness can compete with that super soft and cushiony diaper so snugly wrapped around her waist wasn’t already creating such comfortable compositions, sit back and relax, folks, ‘cause there’s a lot more comfiness where that came from.
waddle….waddle…waddle
Just a few more steps until she’s in her bedroom, and…..aaaaah…..there it is. There’s the soothing sanctuary of sleep, the perfect spot for respite, none other than the bushy-tailed toddler’s bed. Its movable mattress, bound to wash a body’s baggage away the moment she’s on her back, will let the tyke sleep tight no matter how many times she may twist and turn. Its purple blankets, beyond boasting cutesy colors, will keep her all warm, cozy, and cuddled up all night no matter the conditions, all while a poofy pillow soon to soothe her head will ensure Emily’s pampers aren’t the only pure white wonder softly seating her.
waddle….waddle…waddle
step…step…step
Wearing a wide smile, the kid then climbs onto that comfy form of furniture as her feet slightly sink into the mattress, just like how she’ll soon sink into serene slumber. With Elizabeth set to do the honors of tucking the toddler in, it’s only a matter of time until Emily’s mind wanders off into that wonderful world of dreams.
“Hehehehe!”
Just kidding! The diaper-clad kid wouldn’t even dream of doing such a thing right now! Why use the mattress for those immensely boring bodily matters when you can make mattresses into top tier trampolines? Why use such sheets and blankets solely for going nighty-night when their soft and springy surface can delight with thrilling heights?
“Hehehehe! Weeeeee!”
So…..BOING! BOING! BOING! goes the giggly girl on her bed! BOUNCE! BOUNCE! BOUNCE! goes the tot so boisterous at bedtime! “Bouncy! Bouncy! Bouncy!” says the skunk who sees no reason to rest just yet while she’s jumping for joy on her brand new toy!
“You little goofball! Mommy can’t tuck you in if you’re bouncing all over the place!”
BOING! BOING! BOING!
However, even the one more permissive of her daughter’s potent playfulness knows it’s not the time for toying around right now, that even the extremely energetic Emily is still a tiny toddler needing no less than ten hours of sleep. As much as the mother skunk doesn’t want to stifle all this super silly fun, as unequivocally cute as it is to see her girl gleefully boinging about, alas Elizabeth also knows that neither can she get some much needed shut eye until it’s lights out for the little one.
“Emily, come on, sweetie. It’s time for bed.” Elizabeth then says with the faintest of firmness.
“Hehehehe!”
BOING! BOING! BOING!
Bah! Who cares! The night is still young for this youngster! You bet she’s gonna make-
……………
Oh….but what’s this now? All that “Bouncy! Bouncy! Bouncy!”, all that snappy and happy hippity hopping, has just as quickly come to such an abrupt stop. Surely, all of Emily’s energy didn’t just up and go, right?
PFFFFT! FRRRRT!
Uh oh! It’s ‘cause she’s gotta go! Of course she stopped bouncing like a bunny to do what skunks do best! Why else would she put her playful pursuits on pause?
“Nnngh…”
PBLOOOORP!…SLUMP!
Scrunched faces then further affirm firmness is why the magenta furred fella finds herself flat footed, though certainly not the one in Mommy’s tone as a sizable solid dumping into her diaper accentuates the boisterous girl on the bed must put her boisterous bowels to bed.
“Oh! Is it stinky time before sleepy time, sweetheart?”
“Hnnnnnnnng!”
Although that’s acutely the case, although sudden squats and strained grunts from a daughter already donning a dirty diaper denotes bigger numbers from her kid yet to count a single sheep, Elizabeth is satisfied by this stinkier scenario so long as the springy shenanigans have ceased, even if poopier pampers are quite the rancidly roundabout way to resolve that.
SLUUUUUUMP!!!
And so, with a more massive mound of mess making its way into Emily’s diaper as it hardly hovers above the bed, both caregiver and kid can feel complete relief now that boom booms have brought this boisterous chain of events to the end of its lengthy link.
“Poo poo!” the toddler then says as she looks at Mommy with the most innocent smile.
Smiling right back, perhaps the most pleased she’s ever been to know Emily just pooped in her pants, Elizabeth’s simply glad she’s now got the green light to lay the little girl down and put her where she’s belonged since the beginning.
“That’s right, Emily! You went poo poo!” says the mother skunk as she scoops Emily up and kisses her on the cheek before gently lying her back first on the bed. “Now, let’s get you a new diaper, and then it’s time for night night!” Elizabeth adds while the girl giggles and nods.
Day, night, no matter the hour, those little kids will always make time for messing around. Day, night, no matter the hour, their parents must make time to manage it all.
