Maerians still physically age. Each one is mandated by the government to stay between the ages of infancy and 5 years old. Zyn here has chosen to stay between ages 3 and 5 at the cost of a shorter time frame before the memory inhibiting condition Regression Induced Mental Atrophy sets in.
Panel 94 (large panel): Zyn is alone on the carpet, looking very babyish in a lavender colored onesie, playing with baby toys. They are in the living room with the blinds closed.
Caption: Well, it’s a side effect of having to get regressed on a regular basis, along with the wear and tear on the gears of a long-lived life.
Caption: After a few dozen regular regressions, the brain, maybe even the soul, gets damaged.
Caption: When that happens, Maerians get reduced to babbling, barely coherent messes, little more than newborn infants, but unable to form new memories or access old ones.
Caption: Unfortunately, the only “cure” is to wipe the mind of all memories. Only then can a person start growing again.
Panel 95: Val looking at Zyn as she pushes them in the stroller, back to the present.
Caption: As you can see, my Nony is in the late stages of Regression Induced Mental Atrophy. They lived a pretty long life, just barely hitting 90 years old.
Panel 96: Diagram of Zyn bouncing from a happy five year old to a happy three year old and vice versa.
Caption: Nony liked staying in the age range of 3 to 5 years old, and so, needed frequent regressions. That, coupled with their time in the Guard, and losing Mommy, probably helped bring about this condition earlier than we would have wanted.
Panel 97: The family approaches the regression center. The building is a trapezoid sided building with clear glass windows. Inside are trees and bushes and a large cylinder. An emblem of the Maerian Deerhead with an infinity symbol underneath resting above the entrance. On top is a three tiered fountain with a broad winged bird sttatue at the apex perched on an egg. Double-helixed jets of water burst out of the four corners of the fountains pool up into the sky. The fountain is reminiscent of a fountain of youth.
