Ah, yes... The band that gave us "I'm a believer" from Shrek.

Exactly.  They started out as a joke and turned into an in-demand band.  Here's a bit of trivia some folks may not know.  Only Mike Nesmith and Peter Tork had any musical training.

Wait, what?  Davey Jones wasn't musically trained?  That guy could actually sing.  I remember seeing him play live at Disney World way back in the day.  He was old by then, but he still brought a lot of energy.

That's true.  Originally, Davy wanted to be a jockey (because he was so short).  Unfortunately, he was also stocky so he weighed too much to be a jockey.  I think (I could be wrong about this.) that he turned his energies to being an actor.  Fortunately for him, he also possessed a decent singing voice which helped when he auditioned for the show.  Mickey Dolenz was the son of an actor (George Dolenz) and, if I recall correctly, was a trained actor who also had a decent singing voice.  Now, these things I've written here are what I remember reading about the group many years ago.

That was a groovy cool band. They even had their own TV show in the late 1960s.

I also loved the way they broke the fourth wall regularly including asking props to bring them a necessary prop such as Mike's iconic wool watch hat.
