Welcome to an Charsheet about the "Man at arms" in my comic The quest for quests.

There are multiple different meele combat focused classes, all called "Fighter classes". Some are highly specific, to a certain weapontype and some are even hybrid classes, wich leans into magic, or archery, or every other reasonable combination with other usefull combat skills.

The men at arms, is a basic class wich focuses on the lower levels of combat. While having this class, you get an boost on the learn-rate for many meely weapons while missing some distance fighting options. This class is called a base class and can evolve into other classes on a certain level. So the men at arm is the "foot soldier" who can use what ever he prefers and becomes better a little bit faster.
Those men at arms, where usualy used as a basic meele fighters for adventurers, but also became a handy enchantment for new recruits in the armys. With this enchantment it is less costly, to make a bunch of peasants into low tier soldiers without much effort or focus on special armorment.

The only downside is, with most close combat focused classes, the lack of ranged and magical offensive. In general Man at arms are considered quite crude and therefor also lacking on craftmensship.
They are also unable to learn magic, and setting up traps for hunting or against enemys. Those skills are often found in war engeneers and rangers, wich can also be found in the Fighter class range.

Once the fighter got enough exp he was able to choose another class wich might focus on something special.

This artpiece is not only a full representation of Megans full equipment, and a discription about her class.
It is also a little present for

So. Very good at bashing people with a wide variety of weapons. Not so good at anything more refined. Sounds about right for a low-level fighter, really. A bit crude, maybe, but a good meat shield is invaluable in a dungeon, especially if there's only three of you! Lucky bun to get the pain resistance ability, and at least she can do a little bit of smithing, presumably enough to keep her weapons and equipment in good order. The lack of magic makes sense, too. Most fantasy settings won't let you use it while wearing armor anyway. Well, not arcane magic, anyway.

The way these classes are built into the world is really good, too. Usually it's "Here's this class you pick if you're an adventurer" with no real discussion of how or if it might be useful in other ways. So that this is something that is used to create your basic frontline infantryman is a nice touch.

It really is such a gorgeous little picture, too, and such a wonderful little gift. Thank you so much, dear!

My bunny and her whacky hammer. Lookin' good as always!

Interesting that alchemy is only a weakness and not a disability. It's not a skill you normally think of fighters having. Though I guess it would probably be handy if you could brew up your own healing potions and a few things like that. Lucky bun to get the pain resistance trait, too. Always a handy thing for a front-line fighter. Especially if she's just one of your faceless multitude of foot soldiers, rather than a big, fancy knight. Glad to have a good meat shield on our side, and she and Grace seem to work in tandem quite nicely so far, too!

Also, seconding Megan on a big thumbs up for considering how these classes work for other scenarios and uses. With so many RPGs, you kinda get the impression that if an adventurer couldn't adventure anymore, all her hard-earned skills would kinda go to waste a bit.
