Welcome to an Charsheet about the "Mage class" in my comic The quest for quests.
Now the mage is like the only class you can pick when you want to do magic. The problem is, that the wizzard-guild created the adventurers enchantments, and they try to keep their own art a very exclusive club. So the mage is not a real magicain, but more a class that is able to use magical artefacts and magical-essences. Therefor the mage can not realy cast a spell. It can only use already made items, with much higher effect. Therefor this class is a very limited class. Mostly limited to the size of the purse. Wich also results in few mages and most of them being nobles or other rich persons. It is rare to find a mage of poor origins. The rare exceptions are the ones, who got a very usefull magical item to concentrate his whole setup upon this. Still, the mage has some benefits and increased talent in certain skills. Of course the "magic" skill, wich is a general "casting magic" skill. This skill allows every type of magic, thou it levels very slow. the potion usage skill is nessecary for every class using magic. This skill increases the power and casting speed of the spell. Since potions are the sorce of magic, this is mandatory and a good skill to have. Scrollwriting is the art of creating scrolls. And scrolls contain some magic and can be used by everyone. The strength of the scroll is determined by the level of the scrollwriter in once again, potion usage and scrollwriting.
The classical weaknesses are general weapon usage. It's harder to learn close combat when you are magicain. But it's not impossible. Same goes for armor usage and general strength.
The disabilitys are heavy armor AND heavy Weapons. Those equipments will caus massive bodypain when wearing. For example a battleaxe would feel like twice the weight or even more. Same goes with heavy armor. Also archery is heavy handicapped. Thou it isn't hard to draw a bow and shoot, the mage is almost unable to propperly aim and hit. It's strange, but it's how it goes... Mages are basicly restricted to magic. Thou some may wonder why the magic guild included weaknesses and Disabilitys in general. Maybe somewhen Megan will rank high enough in the magic guild to find out.
Darn, snooty wizards. But at least the rest of us some access to magic. Or some of the rest of us, anyway. I'm very curious to see just how many different tricks Grace has up her sleeve and if we ever learn how she got them. Especially considering she starts out as a girl scrabbling for coin in the brothel like the rest of us. (Though, Grace being Grace, she probably just likes it!) And, of course, the nice thing about the adventuring life is adventuring leads to loot, and that can net you thinks that you'd never be be able to afford or have access to if you were just an ordinary person doing an ordinary job.
The weaknesses and especially the disabilities make a long to sense, too. If you can wield magic, be it through magical artifacts like the mage, or raw power like the wizards, you really don't need to bother with things like swords and armor anyway. Granted, having a dagger or something to fall back on in an emergency isn't a bad idea, hence why most fantasy worlds/games/etc. allow spellcasters to do that, but otherwise, you stick behind the meat shields and blow things up with magical fire.
I really like her outfit, too. Of the three, I think it might be my favorite, and I do like the blend of practicality and comfort. And that skirt to make it easy for the monsters...
A very cool set of guides, and it's nice to get to learn a little more about each class, too!

Darn greedy wizards, always keeping the little guy down. Though I guess it's nice that there's still an option for the rest of us. For a given subset of "the rest of us" given the vast expenditure this class entails. But that's where raiding dungeons comes in handy. You never know what you might find in a treasure chest in a dungeon somewhere. Or yoink from the city armory on your way out.
Doesn't seem like she'll be much good in a fight without her magic, so best to be a bit careful with it I guess. I'm assuming there's some kind of limiting factor, like mana or uses per day, that keep you from just spamming your spells all day long. Lucky for her, swift foxes are so speedy! Not that she'd abandon her friends, but you can't hit what you can't catch!
And oh my. Grace with a talent for making potions. Think of the fun she could have getting back at her bunny for all those times she's been turned into a bunny, too. Or a giant plush.
Love all these sheets, and I'm excited to see more, and how these strengths and weaknesses might affect things, as the story goes along!
