Midwest Furfest theme of 2012: “ It came from TV ! ”
Given my track record of [not] getting things done, I'm thrilled that this is what came from pushing out something to show for myself before MFF starts. The lines may not do everything I hoped for, and the shading may be far from perfect, but it gave me something solid and identifying to proudly dangle from my neck. The deadline also gave me a cutoff point to decide when it's done enough, so I can finally say, this is what I printed, this is what I wore, so this what I'm posting online.
“Al” the Albino Fox here is sketched out in pencil, then simply phone-cam photographed (well, I gave the photo a low-pass filter in GIMP for even visibility) to be traced & painted over (in 2 added layers) in MyPaint. I brought those layers back into GIMP to close up the design. The framing comes straight from Sonic 1, though with the obvious typography & gradient added, and a blue screen BG from pixelizing & releveling the original sketch. So yay for open source =) I'm gonna keep using free software; it makes me happy.
Rendering myself at a subtly low resolution actually started out as an accident, which then just became a neat style to fit with the concept. Pixelized fox! (Better than robotized, though it beats me how to get out of here...)
This is the only work I've publicly streamed myself drawing before. So far, so fun! Join.me worked fine. I had to advertise to a friendly Skype chat to get any watchers though.
In the end I'm happy I pulled it off quickly for once, over the weekend before Midwest Furfest.
