Ollie, the jackalope, is studying to be a wizard, just starting at it, he just got a bunch of books, potions, odd plants and such. He was practicing a spell to summon a ghostly hand, unfortunately for him, the spell is known for being unwieldy and can act with a mind of its own.

I can imagine this scenario rubbing it in on poor little Ollie;

After the mysterious hand turns loose of Ollie, he goes in the living room to gather his composure.
Ollie turns on a radio...(If this was in a day and time before radio, then Ollie heard a radio broadcast coming from the future in his crystal ball).
Of all radio programs that could have played, the very one that played was of a Chicago preacher preaching against witchcraft.

Ya that'll happen if you're just starting out. Gotta remember to read
THE WHOLE SPELL before you activate it. :D
