This charmeleon has always wanted to explore a huge reef near where he lives, and just recently managed to get himself some scuba gear to do it with. He could only afford a fairly small tank, but it still gave him another hour and a half to happily explore, looking around at all the aquatic sights. The charmeleon was so enthralled by everything that he didn't realize when it started getting harder to breathe... Eventually, when he sucked in, no breath came, finally prompting him to check how his supply was doing: His air tank was completely empty. He nervously looked at the gauge, not yet satisfied with how much he'd explored... Before deciding to stay down, now simply holding his breath like he always had before.

It's been half an hour since then, and it's starting to occur to the charmeleon that his scuba gear may not have been as necessary as he'd thought; he hadn't gone for the surface a single time this whole dive, continuing to happily swim along the seabed despite the slowly growing complaints of his lungs. That wasn't all that was growing; his cheeks were gradually getting bigger as well, beyond what he'd ever previously achieved and eventually getting close to rivalling his own head in size! Even with said cheeks starting to turn blue, and his lungs intensely burning for air, he's determined to ride out this extreme breath hold for as long as his instincts will let him. He pauses to kneel on the seabed and pick up a discarded shell in a shaking hand for a closer look, little bubbles streaming from his nostrils...

He had a choice to follow the Braixen or explore the rest of the wreck. He chooses the former. As he followed the Braixen, his chest convulsed a bit from lack of air. But he continued on, eventually finding the Braixen in what appeared to be the kitchen. The Braixen turned, noticing a puffed up Charmeleon behind her. She happily smiled behind her regulator before taking it off with a bubbly greeting.

The vault was locatdd on the bottom of the ship. As they swam down there, both the Braixen and Charmeleon felt their hearts racing. As the Braixen smiled back at him, the Charmeleon blushed while the Braixen bashfully looked away. Soon. they arrived at the vault.

Through her mask, she noticed a crate far off in the corner. With the Charmeleon's help, they opened it. Inside were masks, snorkels, flippers to which both Braixen and Charmeleon already had. The Braixen can only facepalm at that, but then, they found discovery. Scuba tanks.
"Yesbllbl!" Both of them bubbled. But them they realized they used up their air and clamped one of their paws over their mouths as their puffy cheeks grew bigger. As they read the gauges, their hearts sank. All of them were empty. The Braixen could only sink into deep despair. There was one tank that still had some air left that wasn't the Braixen's but it was doubtful that any of them can reach the surface with it. With that, the Braixen could only tear up behind the mask. She could never see her sister again. The Charmeleon gave her a reassuring paw.

The Braixen held his paw as they swam out of the recreational room. There were maps all over the ship, the vault was labeled as a self closing vault to ward off intruders, explaining the vault they went through. The bag of gold was still on the Charmeleon, and it didn’t look like a struggle to move it. The Charmeleon gestured Braixen to follow. As they pass through more hallways, the Braixen was beginning to convulse. Quickly, she was about to take a breath from her tank, but she decided not to. But her lungs screamed for air as both she and the Charmeleon turned purple from lack of air. Quickly, she took a breath along with the Charmeleon.
And with that, Braixen’s air tank was no more. The two took the time to survey the room they used up their air in.The medical wing, but it was the right direction, isn’t it? They checked the map, and sure enough, it was. They continued through the wing. Another convulse kicked in.

Both the Charmeleon and Braixen looked at each other with puffy cheeks and worried looks. The way out of the wing was blocked off with debris. Lifting together, the grunted bubbles to move the debris. After a loud crash, they were free to carry on.They arrived in the break room which thankfully had another air pocket.

They held paws together as they swam out of the break room. The last remaining tank they found only had enough for one breath. Both the Charmeleon and Braixen gestured that whoever is the lowest in air breaths I into it while sharing that air to the othe if they need it. They began to cross some familiar sights again. The dining room, kitchen, and the bedrooms. They were almost there. A beam of hope appeared to Braixen as her heart fluttered.

A loud crash grew. Debris fell onto the Charmeleon, causing him to drop the bag of gold, lose several pieces, along with most of his air. The Braixen started to panic. She swam over to him, noticing another tragic sight. Not only was he pinned down by the debris from trays, serving platters, and kitchenware, his goggles broke from impact and were flooding with water. The Braixen hurriedly began removing it, but the Charmeleon stopped her, finding it to be pointless. He gave one last kiss to her and the remaining air on their last tank along with the gold.
Braixen realized what this meant. He wants her to escape, enjoy a good life with her sister. tears form up behind the Braixen as she turned to leave. The exit was in sight, with the surface drawing near. Her cheeks were blue from lack of air and were beginning to turn purple with bulging eyes behind her mask. She looks back at the ship and knew what to do.

She turns back to help the Charmeleon. She swam back to the kitchen area, the Charmeleon was there, ready to accept his fate for drowning. Her eyes grew wide and another convulsion from her set through. Adrenaline ran through her veins as she kicked upwards.

Water began leaking to her throat, but with one last push, she broke through the ocean and into the sky. The time of day changed to dusk, with the sun setting across the horizon, and a storm nearly heading their way. The Braixen instantly began coughing out the water she inhaled as she looked around for her boat. The Charmeleon’s boat was there along with her boat. Quickly, she brought him to her boat. At least the gold remained safe albeit losing some pieces. Quickly, she laid the Charmeleon to the floor of her boat and applied pressure to his chest.
“Charmeleon! Please!” She begged.
She shoved harder, provided mouth resuscitation, and checked his pulse. It was no use. He was gone. The Charmeleon was dead. The Braixen could only sob over his body when she heard faint coughing.

And knowing the vault code to escape, they knew that the vault would be their secret. After that was their confessed love, to which they shared kisses, stories about family, and love to one another. They lost track of time, and the dusk into night. After one last kiss, hug, and nuzzle, both of them each got into their boats.

His throat opens, and as water starts to make its way into him, he jolts back to awareness, barely able to swallow the water in time as he scrambles to get up and claw his way to the surface.
