A day in the park
It was a beautiful day during the summer holiday at the park, with many kids playing. A 4-year-old Arctic fox named Ethan, wearing khaki shorts and a blue T-shirt, is playing in the sandpit with his plushie. A 7-year-old bear called Daniël, who is wearing black shorts and a blue polo shirt, is looking from his treehouse with his friend Benjamin. A 7-year-old lynx who wears grey sweatpants and a white blouse, with his pull-ups slightly peeking out of his pants.
“Daniël, have you seen that new kid, the fox in the sandpit?” the lynx asked his friend.
“Yeah, what about him?” the bear replied.
“That is Mr. Johnson's kid, he and his wife adopted him,” Ben explained.
“Mr. Johnson?” The bear repeated confusedly,
“He’s going to be our teacher this year, how did you forget already?” The lynx sighed, “We should play with him, he looks lonely”. Daniël agreed hesitantly.
They climbed down the ladder and walked toward the fox cub, who didn’t notice them.
“Hello there, how are you?” Benjamin asked the fox.
The fox smiled nervously at him and hugged his teddy bear.
“You don’t have to be scared, do you want to play with us?” Benjamin spoke soothingly. “I’m Benjamin, but you can call me Ben, and this is my friend Daniël, what is your name?”
“I-i-i-im Ethan.” the little fox replied.
“Nice to meet you, Ethan, do you want to play with us?”
Ethan noticed his diaper crinkling as he started flooding it.
Daniël noticed that Ethan looked rather flustered and asked: “Are you wet?”
Ben started chuckling, which caused Ethan to blush.
Daniël calmed Ethan down: “It’s okay, plus, you aren't the only one” as he pulled Ben's shorts down, exposing his wet pull-ups.
He was flabbergasted. “He, why did you do that? “Now everyone knows that I wear pull-ups.”
“Don’t be so dramatic. No one saw your diaper,” replied Daniël.” Now come on, let's go to the treehouse. Ethan, do you want to tag along?”
Ethan nodded his head while wagging his tail happily as they walked towards the treehouse.
“Wauwie! D-d-did you guys b-b-built this yourself?” asks Ethan Shocked.
“Uh-huh, we made it by ourselves, and my dad helped us a little,” replied Ben.
“A little?” asked Daniël sarcastically.
“Okay, he did most of the work, but we did the decorating. Now come in,” he said while climbing the ladder. “Or are you scared of heights?” He asked teasingly.
“A-a wittle, b-but not for this,” Ethan replied nervously.
Inside the treehouse were two pairs of binoculars hanging on a branch, as well as 2 bags and 2 sleeping bags on the floor.
“So, what do you think?” asked Daniël.
“It wooks beautiful,” replied Ethan.
“So, what are we going to do?” Ben asked, getting bored.
“We could play some card games, how about Mau-Mau?” asks Daniël. “Ethan, do you know how to play?”
Ethan shook his head.
“Alright, I’ll quickly teach you” Daniël replied
After a quick explanation, they started playing. Ethan and Daniel were neck and neck with each other, both only having 2 cards.
Daniël placed a joker. “Now you have to take five cards.”
“Nu-huh,” replied Ethan, as he placed the other Joker.
“I hate you both” exclaims Ben as he takes 10 cards.
“The suit becomes clubs,” Ethan said.
“Darn it,” the bear cub says, frustrated as he takes a card.”
Ethan then plays his final card, an Eight of clubs. “Yay, I won” He yelled cheerfully, his tail wagging.
Suddenly, they heard someone yell, “Ethan!”
“T-t-t-that’s my mommy and daddy,” says Ethan to his new friends.
“You have to go already?!” Ben asks disappointedly,
“Yeah, maybe you guys can come with me.”
“Alright, we’ll follow you.
The boys went downstairs again, where they saw Ethan's parents.
“Hewwo Mommy, Hewwo Daddy.” Ethan greeted his parents cheerfully.
“Hello, Mr. and Mrs. Johnson.” Ben and Daniël said in unison.
“Hello boys!” replies Mr. Jackson while picking up Ethan. “Did you guys have fun today?”
“Uh-huh, it was really fun, we p-p-played in the sandpit and in the t-t-treehouse,” Ethan told his parents joyfully.
“That's good to hear, now how about you say goodbye to your new friends, and then we get you changed” replied Ms. Johnson while Mr. Johnson put Ethan down.
Ethan hugged his friends and said, “I’ll see you next time”.
“It was fun hanging out with you,” replies Ben back, “but I won’t play Mau-mau with you anymore.”
“Now, don’t be a sore loser, Ben!” Daniël chuckles. “See you next time Ethan.”
