This was inspired by an AI generated image a friend of mine did some time ago while playing with generators for fun. It looked pretty melty and all that as you can expect but I liked some of the ideas so I remade the whole thing on my own and made my own original species (closed for now) called Manery, and this character called Aaroal (you can pronounce it like "air-oal").
Many generations ago, the species used membranes on their bodies called patagia to glide around, like the flying squirrel and the flying lizard, but over time they discovered they are capable of learning magic magic, so they started using magic to help them glide around instead of their patagia, so it slowly became useless for them, and as they moved to placed with colder climate over the generations their patagia morphed into cape-like membranes to serve as coats for the cold and no longer allows gliding.
However, recent generations learned to use magic to enhance and propel their cape membrane and use it along with magic to glide better and faster than before, being almost able to fly completely.
As for Aaroal, he is an ambulant merchant who likes to go on explorations and adventures to gather new ingredients for potions and interesting things to sell in his shop. He can use magic in combat and other tricks, but he lacks hand-to-hand combat skills.
