Zyn goes to war.
Panel 23: Zyn standing proudly in the uniform of the Princex’s Guard Grenadiers! The uniform is a white coat with pink facings, pink epaulets and pink cuffs. The trousers are the same puffy tan trousers of the Sunnyside Fusiliers. Zyn is wearing a big black fur cap (like Napoleon's Old Guard) with a pink cord going diagonal from top to bottom and a large white plume poking out of the side. The Princex's Guard is most likely an elite regiment.
Caption: They joined the Cub Guard. They would help protect us all against the demons of the nether, the ongoing problem inflicted upon us by the adults of ancient times.
Panel 24: Similar composition to previous panel, but Zyn’s in a black greatcoat in an advancing line as a purple explosion erupts behind them. Zyn is shouting and charging forward to fight the foe. Not looking happy. They are shoulder to shoulder with other cub comrades. Most are determined, but a few are frightened from the explosions and fighting. This panel is supposed to contrast with the previous one. the first being an optimistic and exciting mood of adventure and the second being the grim realities of warfare. It is dirty, scary, and if it doesn't end you, it will leave you scarred.
Caption: I would ask my Nony to tell me stories about their time in the guard, but they never liked going into detail.
Panel 25: Zyn holding a soul drained poodle friend with no pupils. Zyn is hatless and their hair is a mess. The poodle was next to them in the previous panel. Zyn is crying. A pigeon medtech stands nearby in their white and blue uniform with their equipment. The pigeon is holding a silver tube like "gun" meant to suck out stolen souls from demons. There is a gold bendy tube trailing from the "gun" to the fish tank-like backpack that holds lost souls. There looks to be four glowing dots in it already. Behind the characters are bushes, trees, and a forest. 3 pacified impling demons lie scattered about around Zyn and the poodle-friend.
Caption: All they would say was, it was the least fun time of their life.
Medtech: I’m sorry. We found their soul, but it’s been more than 6 hours.
Panel 26: Zyn breaking down even more, close up shot of them and their friend.
Caption: They lost a lot of friends.
Medtech: When we put it back, they won’t be the same. They’ll have to be mind wiped.
Panel 27: Zyn is holding a datapad, wearing their old grenadier’s jacket over their shoulders with sergeant’s stripes as they approach a registration booth. They carry everything they own in a brown backpack on their back. A little bull boy with blonde hair rests at the counter.
Caption: Zyn served their 5 years, left the Guard, and enrolled in the Artificer’s Academy of Sunnyside.
