A beautiful afternoon bountifully bestows its blessings with rays of nourishing sunlight gently stroking the skin, skies without a single cloud obscuring their light blue beauty, birds singing their soothing melodies atop the tree branches, all accompanied by a gentle breeze balancing out the warm afternoon. Such elements contribute to quite the relaxing stroller ride for a certain Electric-type toddler, a Shinx named Sammy sporting a black t-shirt and velcro shoes along with some pure white pampers snugly wrapped around his waist and bottom. Of course, pleasant stroller rides aren’t the only reason for the Shinx to smile, as what awaits him afterwards is an exciting excursion to the epitome of enjoyment, the unparalleled paragon of playtime, the park. Truth be told, the toddler has no idea what a park entails, no concept of it beyond his parent’s promises of a splendid time, but such promises are all that’s needed to keep him eager for what’s to come.

“Here we are, sweetheart!” says Fiona, the mother Flaafy, as the terrain shifts from the sidewalk to a smooth asphalt trail, prompting her to stop pushing the stroller for a few moments.

Upon entering the new area, the first to engage Sammy’s senses is the large field of grass parallel to the tar black trails, blades of green as far as the eye can see; this in of itself is an astounding sight to the Electric-type toddler, not only because the soft substance is very suitable for active kids like himself, a fact familiarized by his frequent frolicking in the backyard back at home, but also because the size of the grassy surface dwarfed that of his backyard, a succinct showcase of what wonders lie beyond the comforts of his house.

“Wow! Wook at aww dat gwass!” says Sammy as he excitedly kicks his feet.

“Yes, that is a lot of grass, buddy, but that’s not even the best part!” says Richard, the father Raichu, with a chuckle.

As the parents continue to push the stroller, the Shinx starts to hear the sounds of laughter, lots and lots of laughter from a wide variety of voices, another source of stimuli to further intrigue the toddler; never in his life has he heard so much laughter within a single area, nor were his ears acquainted with any of those unfamiliar voices, but such sounds make him all the more excited to find out what the park has in store, for he is well aware of the links between laughter and fun.

“Woooooooow!”

Once the stroller is pushed up a small slope, the Electric-type’s expression suddenly shifts to one of amazement and awe, mouth agape as his eyes are met with the sight of a massive playground. In addition to the large play structure, the playground also contains a sandbox, a set of swings, an assortment of spring riders, a jungle gym, and a seesaw, many of which are being used by other kids and their families; of course, Sammy doesn’t have the slightest idea what any of these structures are, completely oblivious to the copious amount fun that can be derived from each and every one of them, but such ignorance only makes the toddler all the more eager to explore this new environment, especially since everyone else seems to be enjoying themselves so thoroughly, with their their smiling faces and gleeful giggling.

“Looks pretty fun, doesn’t it, sweetie?” Fiona says with a smile.

“Uh huh! Uh huh!” he emphatically nods his head and energetically squirms around in his seat, wanting to be free from the confines of his stroller so that he can be a part of this brand new world that awaits him, this paradise of play and fun.

“Then let’s not wait any longer, kiddo! It’s time to play!” Richard says as he unbuckles the baby boy.

Finally free from his restraints, Sammy lets out a playful laugh before bolting onto the playground, ecstatic to explore every crevice of the colossal structures standing before him, thoughts racing through the toddler’s mind about what he should try out first.

CRUNCH! CRUNCH! CRUNCH!

Before he can decide on what to play with, the Shinx’s curiosity is suddenly piqued by the sounds of tanbark crunching beneath his feet, wondering what’s causing such a sound. The toddler then looks down at the bits of bark scattered around the ground and scoops some up, captivated by its crunchy texture, but otherwise unimpressed by its bland colors of tan and light brown. However, the satisfying sounds are more than enough to offset the tan bark’s lack of visual appeal, giving him the perfect way to start his playground experience.

CRUNCH! CRUNCH! CRUNCH!

The Electric-type tot cracks a wide smile as he runs and jumps around the perimeter of the playground, giggling and laughing while the tanbark continues to crunch beneath his feet; although the acts of running and jumping are nothing new when it comes to the kid’s playtime, the additional sounds and textures of tanbark add another layer to the act, an entirely different experience from running on carpeted floors and fields of grass.

“Hehehehe!”

The little boy’s laughter continues to fill the air as he runs several laps around the playground, always enjoying any opportunity to run, jump, and move his body with all kinds of playful maneuvers. A wide smile still on his face, knowing there’s still far more fun to be had, Sammy then looks at the ladder leading to the play structure, excitedly shaking his tail at the prospect of entering this palace of play.

CLINK! CLINK! CLINK!

Giggling and laughing all the while, he latches onto the bars and starts climbing up the three rung ladder, getting lots of enjoyment even out of this fairly simple task; for the active Electric-type kid who’s almost always on the go, any chance to use his body beyond the basics of walking and running, to exercise mobility and coordination in other ways, is loads of fun to the little Pokémon, and that includes climbing ladders. Although he’s only climbing a total of three feet, the Shinx derives immense satisfaction from the brief journey up, feeling like a climber scaling the tallest of mountains, acquiring a sense of sheer awesomeness from ascending each rung, from going higher and higher until the trek to the top is complete. Shortly after standing back up, Sammy looks back down at the tanbark surface separate from the play structure, appreciating the view that comes with such steep climbs, taking in the vantage point acquired from such an awe-inspiring ascent.

However, as the toddler turns back around, he is met by two branching paths, a crucial choice of which part of the play structure he wants to uncover first. Even the kid who doesn’t know his lefts and rights understands that he can only pick one option, the energetic movements he previously exhibited now shifting to a complete standstill as he ponders which path to take. Back and forth, back and forth, the toddler’s eyes moving in tandem with his tail while he thinks of what to do, standing in place for several more seconds until his eyes finally lock onto the left path. After toddling up a small flight of steps, Sammy finds himself staring at a green, gaping hole, some kind of chute-like structure. To the already acquainted, it is simply a tube slide, but to the unfamiliar tot, it is a dark void leading to destinations unknown, causing him to stand at the slide’s entrance for many moments as he questions whether it’s even safe to step inside.

“Hehe, ‘scuse me!”

The Shinx’s train of thought is abruptly disrupted by a Pichu sporting a similar combination of t-shirt and diaper, moving around him before plopping their padded rump onto the slide.

“Weeeeeeee!”

Before the kid can give them any kind of warning, the little rodent goes down the slide, their satisfied squeals and laughter loudly echoing around the enclosed space and gradually fading out as they continue making their descent. The other kid’s laughter allows Sammy to confirm that the slide is, in fact, safe, though he’s still quite confused about where the slide takes its travelers, wondering what kind of location it leads to. Fortunately, his questions are quickly answered as he spots the Pichu pop out of the slide a few moments later, running along to move onto the next attraction. Now understanding the slide to be some kind of tubular transport device, an enjoyable way to exit the play structure, a wide smile forms on the Shinx’s face, eager to give this attraction a try as he enters the slide and seats himself on his padded tush. The toddler slowly scoots himself forward, trying to get a better peek at what lies ahead, but after scooting just a smidgen more, he finds approaches a point of no return.

“Woah! Woooah!!”

Sammy suddenly experiences a sharp drop, his speed exponentially increasing as he slides down the straightaway, maintaining this momentum as he twists left and right, and before he can even process what he’s experiencing, the ride is over. After hopping off the slide, after getting a good idea of what just happened, he cracks a wide smile once again.

“Hehehe! Dat was fun!”

Although the experience only lasted for five seconds, he really liked the adrenaline rush that came from sliding down at high speeds, thrilled by the sensation of weightlessness that came over his body throughout his trip down the twisty tube. Truly, the toddler thought to himself, it was absolutely amazing that such an attraction allowed him to have so much fun with such little time and effort, that by just scooting his butt a bit forward, he could have the time of his life while the forces of gravity did the rest of the work. With all of this in mind, the only thought coursing through his head at the moment is…

“Again! Again!”

And again he goes, not missing a beat as he climbs back onto the play structure and seats himself on the slide, able to further appreciate the experience now that he’s aware of what’s to come.

“Weeeeeehehehe!”

After scooting forward, Sammy bursts into playful laughter and slides down, enjoying every single second of his descent as he energetically kicks his feet, immersed by the sensations of moving faster and faster, thrilled by twisting and turning of the tube, engrossed in the sounds of his own laughter echoing off the enclosed space before he is enveloped by light and brought back to the ground level of the playground. With all that fun salvaged in such a short time, Sammy desires to go on the slide again and again, to enjoy this kid-friendly thrill ride at least a dozen more times, but he also knows there’s a whole lot more to explore and try out, prompting him to climb back onto the play structure and take the other path. The toddler is soon met by a set of monkey bars, and in identical fashion to his first encounter with the slide, the Shinx’s expression changes to one of confusion, wondering what kind of purpose a set of bars serves, curious as to how such a thing is meant to be fun. Fortunately, he gets the answer to that question in just a few moments.

“Pardon me.”

A seven year old Pachirusu sporting a yellow shirt and skirt slowly scoots out of the Shinx’s way and clings onto the first bar, swiftly swinging her way through the set as she seamlessly moves from one bar to the next. As the toddler watches the older girl go through the monkey bars, impressed by her coordination capabilities, he starts to get an idea on why one would find such a thing to be enjoyable; now realizing that climbing monkey bars is like climbing a ladder with just your hands, Sammy understands the structure to be a challenge of strength and coordination, and for Electric-type kids who prided themselves on their coordination and athleticism, this is a challenge he’s more than willing to try out. The toddler then jumps up and clings onto the first bar, determined to make it through the set of monkey bars. However, as his arms start to shake a few seconds later, he quickly understands this will be a lot harder than anticipated, that supporting himself with his limited upper body strength is no easy task. Things aren’t made any easier as he looks down and notices he’s more than a few feet above the ground, finding such a drop to be quite daunting, afraid of the fall that’ll follow if he fails. Nervous thoughts start to creep in his mind and he feels his strength start to falter, quickly losing confidence as a distressed expression forms on his face. But, before all hope is lost, a certain voice chips in.

“Hey! It’s alright! You can do it!”

Sammy suddenly spots the Pachirisu standing below him and looking up at him with a soft smile, intending to help the toddler through this trial.

“Here’s a tip! Swing your body back and forth! That’ll make it easier to grab onto the next bar!” says the squirrel Pokémon in a chipper tone.

Even if that sounded like solid advice, that didn’t stop the nervous thoughts swarming in Sammy’s mind, concerned that he’d fall if he committed to such movements, or that he’d misread his reach and be met with the same misfortune. Fortunately, the friendly kid is quick to quell those thoughts with more gestures of support.

“Don’t worry! I’ll catch you if you fall!” the Pachirisu says with the gentlest of smiles.

Soothed by those assuring words, the Shinx is able to crack a smile and commit to the squirrel’s suggestions, kicking his legs before starting to swing on the bar. Feeling the momentum of such motions move his body back and forth, his worries washed away by the fun feelings of fluidity that come with these maneuvers, he swings forward one final time before reaching to the next bar and grabbing ahold of it with his right hand. However, quickly realizing that his transition to the next bar is still not complete, Sammy starts to feel nervous once again, not sure what to do in this awkward situation of being stuck between two bars.

“There you go! Now move your other hand to that bar!” the Pachirisu says as she energetically jumps in place, excited to see the progress being made.

Sammy takes his left hand off the bar and quickly moves it to the next one, regaining his stability and smiling in response to his successful maneuvers.

“Yea, that’s it! Keep doing that until you make it to the end!” says the other Electric-type while she continues to watch.

Now having a much better idea on what to do, Sammy repeats this set of steps as he swings from bar to bar, gleefully giggling as he gets closer and closer to the end, greatly enjoying this act of moving across the monkey bars. The height he once feared now proves to be a crucial part of the enjoyable experience, for being suspended off the ground added a greater degree of thrill to these moments of play, making him feel like an adventurer swinging across the vines of the vastest jungles during a daring escapade. Additionally, this activity plays perfectly into the Shinx’s affinity for using his body in ways beyond the basics of walking and running, amazed to learn that he’s able to move so elegantly and expressively even with his limited means of mobility, that through sheer willpower he can move around without relying on the ground to propel his feet forward.

Feeling a surge of confidence as he approaches the end, Sammy figures that it’d be a lot more fun to show off to the squirrel watching from below, to be bold and skip to the last bar. Quick to commit to this action, the toddler starts forcefully swinging back and forth, acquiring lots of momentum before flinging himself forward and reaching his right hand as far out as possible. Unfortunately, the Electric-type’s hands are too short to reach the length of two bars, putting him in quite the predicament; having expended a lot of energy from that audacious attempt, feeling his grip start to slip from all the time spent traversing the monkey bars, the toddler soon finds himself falling down, hardly having enough time to brace for impact as he-

“Oof!”

Fortunately for him, rather than being met by the rough surface of tanbark, he lands on a much softer, much furrier surface, all thanks to the Pachirisu who kept her promise.

“Hehe, I saw you trying to skip a bar!” she says before setting him down. “You did such a good job too! I’ve never seen anyone make it that far on their first try!”

Immense feelings of pride swell within the Shinx, amazed that he’s getting approval by someone of big kid status. Although, he’s quick to acknowledge that such pride wouldn’t be possible if it weren’t for the Pachirisu’s help, prompting him to provide a grateful gesture.

“Tanks fow da hewp.” Sammy says to her.

“No problem! That’s what big kids do!” says the Pachirisu, taking an equal amount of pride in helping someone out and using her big kid status for good. “Oh, I almost forgot to ask! What’s your name?”

In response to that question, a puzzled expression appears on Sammy’s face, wondering where such a request came from; after all, his family members were the ones who called him by name, so he didn’t understand why anyone outside of that circle would care about that, though since this new person seemed nice enough, he figured it wouldn’t hurt for them to know.

“Sammy.” he responds.

“Nice to meet you, Sammy! My name’s Priya!” says the Pachirisu, flashing another wide smile. “As much as I’d love to get to know you better, I’m gonna go play with my friend now! Maybe I’ll see you around!” she says before turning around and running off, giggling and laughing while doing so.

Priya. Priya. Priya. The new name swims around in Sammy’s head for a good while, fascinated to know of names beyond his own, beyond the names of “Mommy” and “Daddy”. The word “friend” also floats around in his mind and he starts to fixate on this unfamiliar word as well; with the information Priya gave him, he now knows that friends are people to play with, but this insight only opens up more questions for the inquisitive toddler. For starters, how does one acquire friends? Is Priya now a friend? Mommy and Daddy play with him every day, are they his friends as well? Nonetheless, it was revolutionary for Sammy to realize that, in addition to providing a plethora of ways to play, the park also provided him with a large social hub containing  many potential playmates, adding another layer of excitement to his experience.

However, before the kid can get too wrapped in all of these new concepts, he spots a pair of red and blue spring riders from the corner of his eye, quickly captivated by their resemblance to race cars; while the kid has never seen a spring rider before, he does understand the appeal of the vehicle it looks like, courtesy of the toy cars he has back at home along with the ride-on car he loves to drive around the neighborhood, and so its appearance is more than enough to get his attention as he toddles to the toys in question and climbs onto the red rider.

BOING! BOING!

The Shinx feels himself slightly bouncing up and down shortly after taking a seat, the spring rider rocking around while he grabs onto the handles and places his feet on the supports. Although the kid has no idea why this toy is moving around so much, what he does know is that its bouncy movements are very satisfying to him, and now he wants to know how to make it move even more.

“Hmm….” Sammy leans forward to get a closer look at the contraption he’s sitting on, wondering where the answer lies.

BOING! BOING!

The rider rocks again as he leans forward, a wide smile forming on the  toddler’s face once he learns that his body is the key to uncovering its inner mechanisms. The Electric-type toddler is awestruck by this revelation, amazed that such a toy can be so responsive to the most minimal of movements, and now he’s more than eager to make the most out of this motion-based machine as he leans a lot more intently.

“Weeehehehe!”

His playful laughter fills the air while the attraction rocks back and forth with far greater force, having a wonderful time as it amplifies the results of his actions. The spring rider, in all of its swift and springy simplicity, provides the Shinx with an absolutely splendid experience, one made all the more enjoyable by the soft and cushiony surface of his crinkly garment as he bounces up and down on his bottom. While he continues to enjoy his time on the race car rider, the playful Pokémon imagines himself as a professional driver speeding along the asphalt tracks and zipping past several opposing cars, hearing the hollering cries of the crowd as he quickly completes several laps. However, before he is able to reach that figurative finish line, another kid approaches him.

“Hewwo!”

Sammy looks to his right and spots a somewhat familiar figure sitting on the adjacent rider, for it is the same Pichu he saw on the slide.

“Hi!” he responds, now curious to know who he is. “My name ish Sammy! What’s youws?”

“My name’s Pabwo!” he replies, starting to rock on his rider before asking a question of his own. “Hehehe, do you wike wace caws too?”

“Yea yea yea! I wuv dem! I have wots of dem at home!” Sammy says, his eyes lighting up from this car commonality.

“Oooh! Me too! Me too! We gonna be gweat fwends!” says the Pichu, equally pleased to meet someone with the same interest.

Friend. Friend. Friend. There’s that word once again. Although Sammy still isn’t completely familiar with the term, he now knows that in addition to being people to play with, friends are also people that share some kind of common interest, and this realization rocks his world. Truly, it is nothing short of amazing to know that such a spark of friendship can be lit in a matter of seconds, that two total strangers can connect cause of something as simple as sharing a single interest, and with this common trait of liking toy cars, a strong bond is formed between the two toddlers.

“Hehehe! I gonna wace you!” Pablo says as he starts rocking the rider at a faster rate.

“Hehehe, okay!” Sammy says as he also starts to rock at a much faster rate, completely on board with this suggestion.

The Shinx and the Pichu elicit lots of laughter from each other as their riders rock faster and faster, having lots of fun with this fictitious competition. From such acts, Sammy also learns that friends provide others with new ways to play, even something as silly as imaginative races.

The Shinx and the Pichu elicit lots of laughter from each other as their riders rock faster and faster, having lots of fun with this fictitious competition. From such acts, Sammy also learns that friends provide others with new ways to play, even something as silly as imaginative races.

“Hehehe…oh!”

However, Pablo’s imaginative rivalry on the race track comes to a sudden halt when an intense pressure forms in his bladder. The Pichu then brings his rider to a stop and lifts his butt off the seat, slightly tensing up and tightly gripping the handlebars as readies himself to release the stream.

PSSSSSSSSSSSSSSHHHH!!!

Relaxed sighs are soon followed by a loud hissing sound as Pablo gives his diaper a good soaking, causing it to sag and stain a prominent shade of yellow as it slumps onto the seat of the rider with a loud squish.

“Aaaah…” the toddler expels another silly sigh of relief and gets back to rocking on his rider with an even bigger smile than before, much appreciating this addition of a warm, squishy seat to supplement his playtime.

Although Sammy is also aware of what the other kid just did in his diapers, truth be told, he doesn’t really care, for he’s having far too much fun to let someone’s soaked pampers impede his precious playtime with his new playmate.

“Hehehe! Hehehe!”

With the Pichu promptly resuming play as if nothing happened, with the Shinx being completely unbothered by the strong scent of ammonia in the air, the two toddlers keep rocking back and forth on their riders, their contagiously cheerful laughter making an appearance once again. However, it’s not too long until a certain someone picks up on the presence of Pablo’s dirty diaper.

“Haha, hold it right there, mister soggy butt!” says an Alolan Raichu as she picks up the little Pichu, noticing his new playmate a few moments later. “Oh! This must be a new friend of yours! What’s your name, little fella?” she asks Sammy.

“Sammy!” he replies with a wide smile.

“What a lovely little name! Perhaps I’ll have to arrange a playdate someday!” she says before picking Pablo up. “That aside, someone really needs a diaper change!”

Playdate. Playdate. Playdate. Yet another unfamiliar term to think about, though if it has the word “play”, surmises the little Shinx, then it must mean something super fun, right? Not one to spend too much time racking his mind over such things, Sammy hops off the rider and toddles around the terrain, wanting to try out other attractions while he waits for his friend to return. A few moments later, he stops and stares at an empty set of swings, confused about how he’s meant to play with such things. Fortunately, his father is here to help, noticing the kid idly staring at them for several seconds.

“Ah, you wanna play on the swings, bud?” Richard asks as he approaches the Electric-type tot.

“Uh huh! I wanna pway on dose tingies, Daddy!” Sammy responds with an eager nod.

“Alrighty then!” says the Raichu as he picks the kid up and places him into one of the baby swings.

The Shinx kicks his feet in anticipation, wondering what kind of fun will await him next.

“Okay! Up you go!” Richard says before giving the swing a strong push.

“Wooooooah!”

Sammy is caught off guard by the swing suddenly launching upward, but after getting over the initial shock, he finds the experience to be nothing short of fun, fond of the feelings of weightlessness accompanying the swing shooting upward, enjoying the sensation of soaring up to the skies. More fun quickly follows once the swing approaches its apex and drops back down, with Sammy gleefully giggling while the force of gravity provides him with a fast-paced thrill ride.

“Again! Again!” Sammy says as he looks up at his father, wanting even more of this exhilarating experience.

“Of course! Let’s see how high this baby can go!” Richard takes a step back before pushing the swing with all of his strength.

Sammy giggles and laughs some more as the swing reaches the highest height possible, reaching up like he’s trying to touch the sky with his small hands, feeling like a rocket ship shooting into the stellar realm of space. The drop back down is all the more enjoyable as the swing descends so much faster than before, the toddler squealing with delight as he experiences blistering speeds incomparable to that of the slide. The cycle repeats itself many more times, with Sammy thoroughly enjoying every single push of the swings, though it’s not terribly long until the Raichu is tired out.

“Huh! Why’d it stop, Daddy? Why’d it stop?” Sammy asks, not wanting the fun to end so soon.

“Buddy, I’d push this all day if I could, but my arms are getting tired!” Richard laughs and lifts Sammy out of the swing. “Don’t worry, there’s more than enough to play with here!” he says before walking back to the bench.

Sammy then looks around some more, searching for something new to enjoy. He soon stumbles upon a seesaw, but in identical fashion to the swing, he is initially unsure how to play with it, wondering how it’d be possible to have fun on what looks like nothing but a long plank with a couple of handle bars.

“Hmm…”

The toddler sits onto the seesaw and grabs onto one of the handlebars, but this only causes his uncertainties to amplify as nothing notable happens. Fortunately, his new friend is here to quell those concerns as Pablo toddles back onto the tanbark, now sporting a much cleaner crinkly garment.

“Oooh, you wanna pway on da seesaw, Sammy? I wuv da seesaw!” says the Pichu with a wide smile.

Once Pablo plops his padded tush onto the other end, Sammy’s side of the seesaw suddenly shoots up, catching the kid by surprise.

“Woooah!” he’s further surprised once it comes back down, but after the initial shock subsides, he’s more than willing to give the seesaw another spin.

Up and down. Up and down. The two tots giggle and laugh as the seesaw continues to change in momentum; although its mechanics are quite simple, requiring nothing more than the slight shifting of body weight, there’s something about its responsiveness that make it it whimsically enjoyable to Sammy, something about its repetitive movements that make it absolutely addicting. From this splendid time on the attraction, he also learns that friends function to make the impossible possible, to provide when one person alone can’t get the job done, for if it weren’t for Pablo’s presence, he would have never learned of the simple joys a seesaw has to offer.

GUUUUUUURGLE!!!

However, before either of them can get too sidetracked by the seesaw, Pablo realizes that he now has far more important matters to attend to as a familiar pressure develops from down below, now needing to fill his diapers with the more solid of substances. Putting his priorities straight, the Pichu slightly lifts his bottom off the seat and scrunches up his face, clearly unconcerned about packing his pampers in a public place.

“Mmmmmph!”

PFFFFFFT! PBLOOOORMPH!!

Flatulence follows suit as Pablo promptly poops his pants, his diaper exponentially expanding as several lumpy loads pile in his poofy pants. Due to the additional weight accumulating from the kid filling his diapers, Sammy’s side suddenly shoots back up and the seesaw approaches a standstill, unable to handle the burden of the boy’s bowel movements.

“Huh? It won’t come back down!” Sammy says, very confused as to why this is the case.

However, as the Shinx notices the silly look of relief on the Pichu’s face, along with the large and lumpy diaper slumping on the seesaw, he puts two and two together and quickly confirms that his friend just went number two. While a small part of Sammy can’t help but be annoyed over this abrupt end to the attraction, especially given how much fun he was having, the toddler thinks this situation is far too funny to be bothered over.

“Poopy!” Pablo says with a wider smile, as if he’s proud of this deed of diaper filling.

“Hehehe! Yea! You poopied!” Sammy says with a playful laugh, predictably amused by such potty humor.

The two Electric-type toddlers holler and laugh with each other, thoroughly humored by another silly situation stemming from soiled diapers. Although, it’s only a matter of time until Pablo’s mother picks up on the foul stench of his full diaper.

“Peeyew, Pablo! I can smell that from a mile away!” the Alolan Raichu makes her return and lifts the little guy off the seesaw. “Oof, you sure dropped a big one, sweetie.”

“Mommy! I wanna pway! I wanna pway!” says the poopy Pichu as he aggressively squirms in his mother’s grasp, annoyed that his playtime is being put on pause again.

“Don’t worry, bud, you’ll be back on the playground soon enough!” she says as she starts to walk away. “Phew, looks like Mommy’s changing lots of diapers today.”

Sammy isn’t all that bothered by his buddy’s brief absence, for there are still new attractions to try out anyways. After hopping off the seesaw, the Shinx soon stumbles upon a multi-colored climbing dome occupied by a couple of other kids, a crucial component of any jungle gym; while the little kid is quick to learn that this object is climbable, its appearance is quite confusing to the toddler with no knowledge of the third dimension, having no clue how to comprehend the way it looks, having little point of reference due to his limited understanding of shapes beyond circles and squares. Although, in the case of the active tot who embodies action over thought, he quickly casts his confusion aside and approaches the climbing dome with a wide smile.

CLINK! CLINK! CLINK!

Sammy gleefully giggles as he starts to climb, greatly enjoying the journey up and feeling all the more accomplished once he reaches the top, but as he looks around the dome shaped structure atop his vantage point, Sammy notices there’s much more surface area to climb on, significantly more space to warrant climbing in ways beyond a straight line.

“Hehehe!”

Left and right, up and down, and all around, Sammy giggles and laughs while he climbs every crevice of the climbing dome, having so much fun with all the ways he can move around, amazed by the sheer amount of space available to him. Along with providing him another novel way to move his body, the Electric-type toddler adores this attraction for being a lot more enjoyable than the linear ladders and monkey bars, and his climbing only comes to a stop once he hears the voice of a familiar friend.

“Sammy! Ovah hewe!” Pablo says from the sandbox, now donning a clean diaper.

Quite curious about this new attraction, the Shinx waddles his way over there and climbs into the sandbox, wondering what all these small sand particles are as his feet slightly sink into them, having never seen such a substance before. The toddler then plops onto his padded rump, appreciating the soft texture of the sand grains, though as he’d soon find out, that’s far from the only thing to be happy about.

“We gonna buiwd a sandcastwe, Sammy!” Pablo says as he sticks his shovel into the sand.

But, before they can get started, before Sammy can ask what a sandcastle even is, two more kids decide to step into the sandbox and join in on the fun, a Pachirisu in a yellow shirt and skirt along with an Emolga wearing denim overalls and blue blows on each of her ears. Although Sammy has no idea who this other kid is, upon getting a closer look at one of the girls, he realizes the Pachirisu is none other than Priya, the kid who aided him on the monkey bars, someone he certainly considers a friend by now.

“Hi, Pwiya!” Sammy says with a smile and a wave, more than happy to see her again.

“Oh! Hey, Sammy! Nice to see you again!” Priya responds with an equally wide smile, though this elicits a laugh from her Emolga friend.

“Ha, well aren’t you the popular one, Priya? Even the little kids know your name!” she says with a playful nudge of Priya’s shoulder.

“Haha, I just met him today, actually!” Priya replies before introducing the other friend. “Sammy, this is my friend, Erika!”

“Nice ta meet ya, Ewika!” Sammy smiles and waves before introducing his own friend. “Dis is my fwend, Pabwo!”

“Hi!” Pablo says to the other two Electric-types.

“A pleasure to meet you, Pablo!” Priya says.

“Yea! Nice to meet you guys!” Erika adds.

With this sequence of introductions, Sammy discovers yet another facet of friendship, that making friends allows him to meet the friends of those friends; to the kid who’s still new to such concepts of socialization, it’s quite spectacular for him to learn that a single friendship alone can create all kinds of connections.

“So, what are you two planning to do in the sandbox?” Erika then asks.

“We gonna buiwd a sand castwe!” Pablo responds.

“Well, what do you know? Priya and I are gonna build a sand castle too!” says the Emolga, though an idea pops into her head hardly a moment later. “Wait, I got an idea! We can all build one big sand castle together!”

“Oh, yes! That’s a great idea, Erika!” Priya says with an excited shake of her tail, quickly planning out how this will pan out. “I’ll grab an extra bucket and shovel so we can all get scooping!”

While Priya steps out of the sandbox, Erika soon develops another idea in the absence of the other Electric-type.

“Heh, who says we have to wait on Priya to get this sand castle started? Come on, guys, let’s start scooping!” says the Emolga as she hands Sammy the blue bucket and shovel.

“Okay!” the two tots exclaim.

With that, the three Pokémon start scooping sand into the buckets and dumping the contents into a single pile, creating the beginnings of a firm foundation by the time Priya returns.

“Haha, don’t start without me!” Priya giggles as she steps back in the sand box.

“Hehe, Ewika said we could stawt!” Pablo responds as he keeps scooping.

“Uh huh, and we’re gonna need lots of sand if we wanna make a big sand castle!” says the Emolga with a chuckle.

“Yea, you’re right!” says the Pachirisu as she starts to pitch in.

Several shovelfuls later, the four kids create a large pile of sand, having more than enough to make quite the colossal castle.

“Aw yea, look at all this sand we’ve got! We’re gonna make the biggest castle ever!” Erika says with a wide smile, extremely eager to begin building.

“Yes we are, and we’re gonna need your help too!” Priya says as she looks at the two toddlers. “You two can make the towers while we make the fortress! Just fill up the bucket until it’s full and then flip it over!”

While Priya and Erika put the big pile of sand to good use, Sammy and Pablo get back to scooping sand into the buckets, gleefully giggling as they get fuller and fuller. Once they’re completely filled up, Sammy flips the bucket over and pushes it onto the ground, revealing a small sand tower once he lifts it up. Pablo then toddles to the other side of the in-progress castle before doing the same, putting the bucket down and making another small sand tower.

“Ah, looks like the towers are already done! Great job, guys!” Priya says while she finishes up the fortress.

“Yea, now just sit back and relax while we finish things up!” Erika says with a smile.

The diaper-clad children sit back down while they watch their efforts come into fruition, impressed by the older kid’s capabilities to turn a pile of sand into a colossal castle, amazed by their ability to make such an edifice with such efficiency. Once the finishing touches are made, the sand castle is finally complete, consisting of the tall sand fortress along with the small towers made by the toddlers.

“Woooooow!”

Sammy and Pablo stand back up and stare at the sand castle with wide-eyed expressions, awestruck by its sheer size and structure as it towers over their tiny bodies.

“Pretty impressive, don’t ya think?” Erika says with satisfaction, feeling quite content with their most recent creation.

“Impressive indeed, but let’s also give credit where credit is due!” Priya says as she turns back to the baby boys. “Thanks so much for the help! We couldn’t have done it without you!”

The Shinx and the Pichu beam with pride in response to the Pachirisu’s praise, feeling very accomplished for being such a big help to the big kids. As Sammy continues to gaze at the completed castle, the collective efforts of himself and his three new buddies, he further realizes just how helpful friends can be, that collaboration fostered by such connections can be the creating force behind incredible accomplishments.

GUUUUUUUUGLE!!! GUUUUURGLE!!!

However, while Sammy further understands the power of friendship, a significant pressure brews in his bladder and bowels, having lots to unload after all of his playground adventures. Tensing up his face as the toddler immediately addresses what’s lurking down below, ready to release the waste from within, the Shinx clenches his paws and pops a squat, clearly unconcerned about filling his pants in front of his friends, for he’s gotta do what a diaper-clad kid’s gotta do.

PSSSSSSSSSSSSH!!!

The contents of his bladder are the first to come out as a hissing sound follows suit, with Sammy’s diaper thirstily absorbing the torrent as it starts to sag and stain yellow, swelling up as it takes in the strong stream.

PBRAAAAAAAAP!!!

A loud fart follows as the hissing persists, a second sound to signal that the tot is about to go number two. The hissing sound soon subsides and Sammy’s bladder eventually empties, but there is still more that must be expelled, more to come beyond a soggy diaper as the sounds of strained grunts play a prelude of poopy pampers.

“Mmmmmph…..mmmmmph!”

PFFFFFT! BLOOOOORT!! PBLOOOOORMPH!!!

The crude sounds continue as Sammy deposits several smelly solids, his diaper further expanding as large lumps protrude from his padding, slumping onto the sandy surface as poo poo piles into his pants. A few moments later, all is unloaded and Sammy starts to relax, a silly smile quickly forming on his face.

“Aaaah…”

A dopey sigh of relief concretely concludes this deed of diaper filling, with the soggy and stinky Shinx feeling very relaxed from this release of pressure, content to having committed to the toddler’s truism of “when you gotta go, you gotta go”, no matter the time and place. Of course, having dropped a deuce so unabashedly leaves mixed reactions from the spectators in the sandbox.

“Hehehe! Big poopy! Big poopy!”

For the second of the diaper-clad kids, such circumstances elicit reactions of immense amusement as Pablo laughs out loud and gives a resounding round of applause, delighted by this showcase of the Shinx dumping lots of doo doo in his diapers. Although, in the case of the older kids, the ones who don’t share that same affinity for the Pichu’s potty humor, their responses aren’t as positive.

“Ewwwwww, Sammy! You smell awful!” Erika says with a repulsed plug of her nose.

Although the Emolga has been enjoying the time spent with them, such stinky circumstances are a potent reminder that her new playmates are diaper dependent babies. As the pungent odor of poopy diapers continues to surround the sandbox, Erika starts to question if it’s really possible to befriend little kids who are a third of her age, wondering how one can ever be on close terms with babies who still soil their pants on a daily basis.

“Oof, yea, he really needs his diaper changed.” Priya says in a more composed manner, enduring the foul stench as she walks up to Sammy and grabs his hand. “Come on, Sammy, let’s get you back to your parents.” she then guides the Shinx out of the sandbox and starts walking him back to his family.

While Sammy wants to play around for longer, he doesn’t have an issue complying with the Pachirisu’s commands, starting to view Priya not just as a friend and a playmate, but a mentor and a guiding force as well. As the two kids walk off the playground, Sammy looks at Priya with a smile, overjoyed by this opportunity to meet people beyond his parents. Priya smiles back in spite of the loaded diaper slumping past the Shinx’s feet, always appreciative of the chance to make new friends, be they young or old.

“Phew, someone sure needs a diaper change.” says Fiona as she approaches the children and lifts Sammy up, noticing the Pachirisu’s presence a few moments later. “Oh, and who’s this little lady?” the Flaaffy asks.

“Hi! I’m Priya!” says the seven year old.

“It’s nice to meet you, Priya!” Fiona smiles and looks back at her son. “Looks like you made a new friend, didn’t you, sweetie?”

“Yea yea yea, she my fwend, and Pabwo my fwend, and Ewika my fwend!” Sammy cheerfully responds, happy to inform her of all the new friends he’s made.

“Wow! You made three friends today? You’ll have to tell me all about them!” Fiona says as she walks to one of the public restrooms and lays Sammy on the changing station.

In spite of the foul odor filling the air, she’s able to clean the toddler up with poise and proficiency, undoing Sammy’s dirty diaper and plopping it into the trash before lifting his legs and using several baby wipes on his bottom.

“And…all done!” Fiona powders the boy’s bottom before snugly securing a clean diaper around his waist. “So, tell me, sweetie, did you have lots of fun?”

“Uh huh! I pwayed on so many tingies, and I-

However, before Sammy can further detail all the fun he had, before he can tell his parents of the three friends he made, the toddler lets out a long yawn, starting to feel sleepy from all of that time spent playing around.

“Aww, is someone getting sleepy? I suppose that makes sense after having such a fun-filled afternoon!” Fiona giggles and gives Sammy a kiss on the cheek before resting him over her shoulder. “Come on, let’s head back home so we can get you to bed.”

As drowsiness starts to overtake the toddler, he gets one last look at his newfound friends, wondering when he’ll get the chance to see them again.

“Honey, I think it’s time to go home. The little guy is out like a light!” Fiona says as he hands him to her husband.

“He sure is! I guess that’s one way to pardon ourselves from parenting duties for a while.” Richard replies with a chuckle as he buckles the toddler back into the stroller.

Falling fast asleep a few moments later, Sammy cracks a content smile as he thinks about the many things that transpired this afternoon. His mind vividly pictures all the attractions he got to play with on the playground, reminiscing over his treks down the tubular slide, his adventures across the monkey bars, his spectacular time on the spring riders, his swell sojourns on the swing and seesaw, and his sublime experience in the sandbox. Sammy’s smile widens as he then starts thinking about the friends he made today, the three Electric-types that made this experience exponentially more enjoyable. As his mind initially pictures Pablo, Sammy feels a deep sense of appreciation for the little Pichu, enjoying every single second he spent with him on the spring riders, the seesaw, and the sandbox; because of all the commonalities they have, such as their age, their diaper dependence, and their shared interest in toy cars, the Shinx certainly looks forward to seeing him again, and perhaps he’ll have one of those “playdates” with the crinkly companion someday.

The toddler’s mind then shifts to Priya, the Pachirisu who aided him in his monkey bar adventures and assisted him in the sandbox, the one who introduced him to the idea of friendship in the first place; because of the older kid’s wisdom and kindness, Sammy is very eager to see her again as well, not only to have another fun person to play with, but also to have someone who will enable him to learn more about all the wonderful things the world has to offer, someone who will allow him to get a good look at what goes on in the lives of those big kids on the block. Finally, Sammy’s mind shifts to Erika, the Emolga he met due to his introduction to Priya, another huge help to the sand castle they created; because of the way they met, Sammy is very curious about the additional friends Erika may have as well, and he hopes to make many more because of such connections. Although he knows the least about her compared to his other two buddies, that just makes him all the more excited to know Erika better, hoping that he will also see her another time.

With the many opportunities for fun and play, with the creation of companionships he’ll hold dearly in his heart, for Sammy, this was a splendid afternoon at the park.
