A little catch-up of where it was left on: https://inkbunny.net/s/2517028 ---------------------- “… You want my help? You need my fire? You probably are more than capable of causing severe burns, little guy.”
He folded his arms, looking down at me, mildly anger and annoyed as the lump on top of my head sizzles.
“I’m not that strong yet,” I sighed, flapping my wings in upset, “I’ve never been a useful big brother. If I could be any stronger, many things could have better outcome.” Yeah, Sting and Needle would not need to risk getting hurt, or if I could breach the shell, maybe I could have saved mama? I don’t know.
“Well, it’s not your fault, it’s simply because you aren’t a vessel,” I turned back, looking at Miss Hornet, “And that is why we could only let Sting and Needle handle this… Plus, you are the only one in the family that can start a fire, you just don’t see yourself as an important member of the family is all.”
“I can’t?” I said, “I really do not think my fire is that good… I just don’t want to waste time, daddy is certainly more capable of handling it.”
“Or at least you think so.” Said my daddy, he sounds calmer now, “You have grown a lot, my child. And for that to happen, you wouldn’t know how much power have you sapped from me.”
“… You’re saying that you can’t help?”
“I can’t help in the way you expected me to, at least.” He lifted a finger and stopped me from continuing what I wanted to say, “My own power might not be enough to boil the mixture you wanted me to do, my body isn’t much more powerful than you now. If we boil it together, however, it would be another case.”
...
I lowered my head and let out a worried sigh, I do not know if that’s going to mess up. I looked back at others, they are looking at me, hoping that I can do something.
“You should try that, for mama at least.” Petal said, now setting up the pot, “We… We can only count on you now, if we want to get mama out of that place.”
…
… Yeah, I guess try my best is the only option now, yeah?
Petal begins to pour everything into the pot… Honey, and the soul Sting and Needle collected. I think Miss Hornet said something like “It’ll have the effect similar with how vessels heal their own shell” once they are boiled, how boiled does it needs to be then? I wondered as I lay down on a good position to start the fire. Daddy is holding the pot with his hands? He can boil the mixture with his hands? That’s already much better than what I can do, I don’t even have arms yet.
“When the mixture begins to glow mildly… It should work.” And soon, the mixture would begin to glow. I panted, a bit tired with all the fire that I just breathed out, but… It’s done, thanks to daddy’s help, it’s done. And now, it’s up to Petal, once again.
We waited quietly as she dips her brush into the mixture, applying on the cracked shell we fetched. At first, our heart sank as we see it only applies a very thin layer above the crack, but Petal doesn’t seem to mind… and applied it again, and again, and again, it took me a while to realize that it isn’t any different than painting to her, I did noticed her applying paints more than just one layer.
After using up the whole pot of mixture, the crack looks… somewhat closed up.
“And that should do… The little ghost, she will probably be very fragile if she enters this shell, but she will be capable of healing herself once she returns, and it’ll be as good as new.” Miss Hornet says, “… Let’s not waste any time and bring her back right now then, agree?”
Grimm POV
I watched them leave, my palm placed against the tent wall as they rushed out excitedly.
There’s no temperature in my palm.
… Indeed, he has grown much stronger than he thought. Maybe not in compare with vessels, but at least, when it comes to fire, he is quite capable now.
Though, it’s his task to work on his self-confidence… And with the help from his siblings, and his “mother”… Well, it’s only a matter of time.
