Here's the Patreon Monthly Vote Draw for 2023 October! The dying world beneath gives away its ghost, and embraces the long cold winter...
But before that, that moon takes pity, and shines its rich orange harvest light down upon the stray spirits, who come out to play amongst the living as if they'd never passed on!
Jenny laughs gently as her broom grazes treetops and then lifts up, silhouetted briefly against the night sky's beacon. She couldn't believe she'd nearly stayed in this year; her pregnant middle made it difficult to move from the couch to the bed, let alone go on a ride like this! But she had felt the Hallowed spirit move her, and before she even knew what she'd decided on, she had wrapped herself in the witchy-est garb she could, and took to the sky...
Now, she knew she made the right choice. She wasn't due for just a little bit longer, but her life-filled middle attracted the attention of all manner of spirits and haunts, who floated near her curiously. Especially the young ones! Some were brave enough to float near her and nuzzle her belly... Some were mischievous enough to dig into the candy cauldron she'd brought for just such an occasion as Trick or Treaters... And some just floated nearby to stare in envy and wonder at her gravid form...
The meloetta petted along each one who wanted to nuzzle up to her motherly self, and then left them with sweets and warmth inside their undead hearts. In time, perhaps a legend would form of a kindly witch with many children, who danced under the orange light of the most haunted time of year without care...
At the moment? Jenny hovered over spooky forests, dilapitated houses full of un-life, and finally over neighborhood streets where children also laughed and played, even if these ones were not near as pale or grim. She came to a stop on her doorstep and nearly fell over with a grunt, but hefting her tummy and turning to look over the scene...
She saw the many glinting lantern lights, on porches and in the hands of young ones who danced among the leaves, or the afterlife. She smiled, knowing her own children were out there, somewhere. And, as the little one inside rudely kicked to remind her she had a lot of leftover candy and even more leftover aches from her impulsive midnight ride, she knew there would be many more to come.
She waddled inside, couldn't resist a graceful turn of a dance step, and then let out a positively witchy giggle of happiness before the door slowly closed. One by one, the jack o lanterns winked out in the night... Their wide grins, whether grotesque or silly or haunting, all flickered and dimmed...
By the grey hours of the morning, the brightest smile belonged to her.
