~ First Week of School (Story Piece) a.k.a " That Girl Can Punch ! " ~ by SenZ
As this is mainly for story progression, this piece took a while and isn't up to the par quality I really hoped for, and so I *might* move this to Scraps at some point later on.
*NOTE: I condemn all forms of bullying including and especially physical hostility. However I do support sticking up for yourself and sticking up for others being picked on. I really felt compelled to draw this piece as it is important and key to the story of the day that Caedyn Squirrel becomes attracted to Melecia Mouse. Caedyn was not injured, and he was OK after this event. Going forward, I will try and avoid drawing any situations of physical bullying, so this is a one-time exception. But the piece does have a happy ending ..... well, not for the knocked-out bully, but at least for Melecia & Caedyn ! :)
STORY:
The overtones of the long hot Summer still slightly lingering, the new school year had begun for the small town in which Caedyn's family had just moved to. His first day of school at his new elementary school had arrived. Dropped off by mom, he carefully navigates by himself down the wide, locker-flanked main hall, looking for his classroom number .... No. 201 on the left, there it is ....
Entering the open classroom door, his feline teacher, Ms. Kitzenfell, stood at front and had already been pre-informed that a new squirrel cub would be beginning that day, so there was no mistake that she should introduce him.
" Class, I'd like you all to give a nice, warm welcome to our newest transfer student, Caedyn. I hope you'll all make him feel very welcome ! "
Caedyn's eyes, nervous, quickly scanned the small classroom but did not register that a mouse girl at the back of this very class he had already met this recent summer ....
" Caedyn, go ahead and take the empty boy's seat at the very back row, the blue one, there at the right " .... teacher gently added with a little point of direction.
He walked over and plopped down, not out of weariness but rather due to the heavy, book-stuffed backpack. To his immediate right, a girl in a bright magenta outfit whispers .....
" Pssst, hey ! .... Say, didn't we meet once before ? Yeah, at the beach this summer ! "
Caedyn, caught off guard and then doubtful for a moment, pondered a few moments to conclude that she was right ....
" Um, yeah, I think I remember you now .... " he timidly whispered back with a nod {{{ gosh, what was her name again ??? }}
" We met last summer, I'm Melecia .... remember ? :b teehee " she quietly whispered back with a smile. Teacher quiets the classroom, and lessons begin ....
~ School days pass in a blur ~
Later that week, the break before lunch period commences and Caedyn heads alone down the main hall to open his locker and retrieve his packed lunch. A taller boy, reptilian and several grades ahead of Caedyn, rounds the corner and approaches him ....
" Hey there, twerp ! ... watcha got fer lunch credits, best hand 'em over, cuz today I'm extra hungry " the older kid smugly commands.
" Sorry .... I don't have any credits today .... my mom packed me a lunch" Caedyn nervously replied, scared and trying to hide his shaking.
" WRONG answer. Guess I'll have to teach you AND yer mom a lesson today then, little dork " the bigger kid retorts, with both hands immediately shoving Caedyn to the cold tile floor, and quite hard. Caedyn's upper back and shoulders took the brunt of the fall. He resisted the urge to cry, though tears were forming out of the shock, the embarrassment, and the pain from hitting the floor so hard.
Perhaps not out of coincidence given the small school and the common lunch hour for all ages, Melecia just so happened to be rounding the hallway corner when she catches the latter moments of this exchange. Piecing together what had transpired, and having a bit of tomboyish side, she shouts:
" Hey !!! Leave 'im alone !!! "
The bully kid slowly turns about-face, but it was too late for him. With her fist clenched tight and full forward running momentum, Melecia (notably shorter than the bully) takes advantage of the bully's slow turn, aims high, and uppercuts him directly in the tough part of the upper cheekbone. Rather lucky though she was, it was still a pretty hard punch for a girl. Shaking her hand as her knuckles throbbed and hurt pretty bad from the transfer, Melecia hid the pain. She worried slightly, though not too much, whether she might get in big trouble now .... but then re-focused on helping Caedyn up. The bully was knocked flat on the hallway floor, both stunned and confused, not far beside Caedyn who was just coming back to his own senses.
" Here Caedyn .... let's get you up ! " Melecia so upliftingly offers in her bubbly high pitched voice, stretching out her arm peacefully to Caedyn, hand wide open to help lift him up.
*sniff* thanks :) .... Caedyn replies, wiping a tear, re-gathering himself, and grasps Melecia's open hand to rise up .... himself embarrassed by the previous ordeal as well as touched by what Melecia just did for him, and her compassion.
Fortunately, not too many other kids saw the event, save for Melecia and a small few he didn't even know.
" That bully will leave you alone from now on .... I promise " Melecia says with confidence, somehow. The bully kid looks back up, quite stunned that it was not only a younger cub that decked him, but a girl too. Noticing one of the senior teachers coming around the corner, the bully quickly gives up his act and walks off in silent fear of getting further embarrassed, or busted by the teacher. Hopefully we shouldn't be seeing him anymore.
Lunch period and the afternoon passed by much better and in a flash. Caedyn doesn't tell his family about what happened, but later that night at home, with the whole event behind him, he feels a subtle but just noticeable spark in his heart and mind .... he reflects and (slightly) also worries that he may have one of those so-called "crush" things on this Melecia girl ....
AND WOW, THAT GIRL CAN PUNCH ! - I'd best remain on her good side, ha .... Caedyn reflects and quietly chuckles to himself, before finally turning his head to sleep.
