Arbok are known for their face-like patterns across their cowls and how they're used to paralyze prey with their Glare attack. However, certain studies have revealed that it's not always a clear cut case of Paralysis. Others will have their patterns glow and induce a sense of pleasant relaxation in their prey to keep them still. Said glow is often related to Hypnosis in terms of how it dilutes the prey's sense of danger and leaves them with nothing but smiles.
A common theory for this is that some Arbok feel pity for their prey and put them under a blissful thrall that will see them through to their stomach. Some prove more stubborn that others such as with Iris. Thus an Arbok will coil around them and constrict them, strangling them of any oxygen to make them light-headed. Their resistance depleted, the Glare's effect will take hold and won't even waver during the digestive process. Though some prey require lengthy periods of squeezing to make it permanent.
Needless to say, Iris will only briefly regret visiting Ash in Kanto.
