Technically speaking, Kuan isn't my first oc. Actually I created him some years ago as a background character for my stories and rp. Back when he was called Ran Mao (冉髦) and was a condor. Inner skill Everyone in Klein is born with a special ability, minor or major. However, there are rare cases of people who have none. Like Kuan-syn. However, the Fenghuang give their power to the host. A mystical form for pyrokinesis, a basic understanding of all languages, the ability to see spiritual energy, the ability to genderbend due to the male/female duality of the Fenghuang, and also immortality. The bearer of Fenghuang ages extremely slowly, is immune to disease, has a powerful healing factor, and can resurrect if killed for as long as Fenghuang wishes. The mystical power of Fenghuang also allows Kuan to use his fire to heal people and harm enemies.
Weapon :. His weapon is a mythical and mystical nunchaku called the Harbinger/Omen of Blazes (Huǒyàn Yùzhào 火焰預兆) or locally known as "Kwensu-ca". This nunchaku is a gift from Fenghuang-ti, the phoenix deity, to the first person ever to bind himself to Fenghuang: the First Chosen, known as Chiû Khûng-lìn. A folk hero and founder of the August Rooster/Vermilion Bird School and in particular of the Twin Phoenix Boxing (雙鳳拳 / Shuāngfèngquan). This Nunchaku had the mystical ability to change shape to suit the wielder's fighting style. It could take the form of any blunt weapon, change its size and length, and also channel the fire power of the phoenix, dealing magical fire damage. However, the chosen one of Fenghuang can simply imbue their chi with the power of the Fenghuang to achieve the same result. The Nunchaku doesn't cost any chi to use.
Background : Seow Kuan-syn is a Ên-yiu, an islander goshawk, born in the tribal clanship of Moi-thin on the island of Yun-chu. The main territory of the Tûngnàm-mínzú (south-eastern Kongyue ethnos) in the fiefdom of Kongyue, one of the principality of the Serinthuan confederation. His father was Seow Kuan-lòi, an apothecary, and his mother Lai Seetha Khiâu-ên, an administrator at the Kongyue court.
To compensate for his lack of inner skills, Kuan-syn was taught herbalism and cooking by his father, and the basics of Twin Phoenix Boxing by his mother. When he was old enough, he was sent to the August Rooster Monastery to perfect his martial arts. A good student, he became a promising martial artist when one night, when he was 19, a mark appeared on his forehead. And his hair turned white.
Legend has it that when Fenghuang-ti chooses a host, or at least a candidate he deems worthy of his power, that person's hair turns white and the mark of the phoenix appears. A ceremony of purification and some tribal trials were organised before Kuan-syn had to venture into the Yongzhou volcano to meet the phoenix and earn his blessing.
Fenghuang-ti is a sentient, talking beast that lives in a subterranean shrine in the heart of the volcano. Kuan-syn eventually found Fenghuang and the two of them had a good chemistry. So he made the pact and became his host. He was also given the Kwensu-ca Nunchaku. Something that hadn't happened for centuries, at least in Serinthuan. Because Kuan-syn learnt from Fenghuang that a few centuries ago a foreigner became his host, and that person eventually met Kuan-syn on his journey to the mainland.
This former host was Huỳnh Xuân Khiêm -also known as "Fuheng"-, a white-haired condor and wandering martial artist, and was curious to meet his successor. He became Kuan-syn's travelling companion and master, teaching him how to use the nunchaku, his new fire-type power and some fire fighting moves. Then they parted ways, and now Kuan-syn is part of the Ouroboros, a circle of immortal - and mystical - Kleinians. Kuan-syn became a wandering adventurer and martial artist like his master, though he occasionally returns to his village to rest between journeys. And with the money he earned from the various tournaments, he bought himself a mansion in the capital of Kongyue.
And nowadays goes where the phoenix want him to, especially travelling to countries that Fenghuang want to see.
