masterful rendition of the childhood trauma.

and the thing is depicted not fom choko point of view, but from her mother's...
he's watching right in mum's face (or what remains of it)

the last panel makes me wonder if this is the first time he remembers the accident or is a recurring nightmare.

Thanks a bunch, yeah wanted to make a more subtle choice than just drawing something graphic, hence why I picked up this POV, plus it offered an interesting angle and a nice transition to the final panel.

As for your question, it's gonna be answered in the next comic, though that episode may give you a clue.
