"A meeting of nerves"

Slowly, the cage descended, its occupant holding their tail to make sure it wouldn't hang outside. He was here to safely watch some sharks, though being fairly close to them was still making him a bit nervous. Some time after the cage stopped, a thresher shark came over to investigate, the lizard tightening his grip on his tail. Except, it seemed the shark was concerned as well. "A-are you okay? Who put you in there?" The lizard's own worry started to fade, and he pulled the regulator from his mouth to bubble an explanation.

*it was a normal day, an average day perhaps, but it's all about to become interesting as this lizard was in a boat, along with a cage attached to it, waiting for it to head off towards a place where you could go and safely watch some sharks, but before it could, a very shy and scared lampent was on the shore, looking at the boat, they also had the same ticket to go see the sharks since they knew they would get air supplied to them however, what both of them didn't know yet was what that there was only one tank avaliable*

The lizard looks at the lampent on the shore and gets as close to them as he can without leaving the boat. "Are you here for the shark watching too?"

"I'm sure you'll warm up to it eventually!" The lizard hugs the lampent again, then gives them the air tank so they won't be the first to hold their breath.

The driver closes the cage. "You'll be down for half an hour. If there's any issue, hit that button at the top and I'll get you back out."

The cage keeps going down for a bit longer before stopping. The lizard already seems to be in a bit of need for air, but he doesn't mind it yet.

Letting go of the top of the cage, the lizard sinks down to sit next to the lampent, giving them a thumbs up as he holds his tail to keep it in the cage. Not too long after that, a shark finally comes by, stopping to look at the two of them.

Knowing the lampent is intensely uncomfortable, the lizard grabs the regulator and starts panting from it, in about 10 seconds getting his face's colors back to normal. He holds his breath again and passes the regulator back to the lampent.

The hammerhead shark actually seems friendly and to recognize why the lizard and the lampent are in the cage. It smiles and waves a fin to both of them.

Thankful he wasn't pushed as far this time, the lizard gasps from the regulator a few times. Except, he starts finding it a little harder to breathe from each time... Still, once he's satisfied about 5 seconds later, he passes it back to the lampent.

Shark: "I've always found it so strange that people like you like exploring somewhere you can't breathe..."

*the lampent hurriedly puts the regulator back into their mouth, breathing from it...but just like the lizard it was really hard from lampent breathe into it, only managing some breathes here and there, then when the lampent looks at the air gauge they saw it was almost empty, almost having a panic attack to it and showing the gauge to the lizard*

The lizard's eyes go wide, and he immediately swims up to hit the button to be pulled back up, the cage ascending at the same rate it'd gone down.

Shark: "Are you guys okay? Is something wrong with that air thing you've got?"

*the lampent looks down at the shark and nods his head quickly, trying to do a symbol for "out of air"... by now the air has almost completely been gone, so the lampent takes a final deep breath of air and removes the regulator, fearfully holding their breath*

While the shark doesn't understand the gesture, the lampent now holding their breath gets the message across. "Oh jeez, you're out of air! Agh, there's nothing I can do to help... But, maybe..." The hammerhead is the only shark nearby now, the thresher having left a while ago. "If you can get the cage open, I can carry you guys up!"

The cage is about two thirds of the way back to the surface, and while the lizard is confident he can last long enough to get there, he's worried the lampent might not.

The shark just looks at the two in concern, wishing there was something they could do to help.

"Are you serious?! That was NOT fun! I hated that! There were only a few moments where everything was peaceful but the majority of this I hated! Why wasn't that a full tank of air?! What is the matter with you!" *the lampent shouted angrily, but also was scared because of this unexpected experience*

Driver: "Yeah, I've been having kind of an off day... I'll do what I can to make sure you guys are taken better care of if you want to come back sometime."

Lizard: "I'd definitely appreciate that. Don't want to have to hold my breath for something like this."

"Exactly!" *suddenly the lampent goes back to his soft fearful voice* "But I don't know if I'm gonna ever come back here...it's porbbaly not gonna happen..."

At this point, there's a slight but noticeable splash as the hammerhead shark pokes their head above the water to check on the lizard and the lampent, holding their breath with puffed cheeks. They smile as they see they're both fine.

The lizard smiles back at the shark, then looks back to the lampent. "Next time's definitely gonna be better than this one. You might even get to hang out with that shark again!" He gestures to the shark.

"Huh?" *they look at the shark* "Oh...it's you... I still don't know about that but this shark was really nice... and they way they are holding breath in the air is kinda funny..."

The shark happily waves to the lampent.

Driver: "Ha, you made a friend down there, huh? I'm sure they'd be happy if you came back to see them again."

Lizard: "Well... Just give it some time. I bet you'll eventually feel better about diving again, it just might take a while." The shark dives under to breathe, then comes back up.

*the lampent sighs heavily* "No...it's never gonna happen...I told myself this was gonna be safe and this is what I got! I'm never submerging underwater again!" *they frown as tears come out of their eyes* "Now get me to dry land already!"

The lizard hugs the lampent as the driver starts bringing the boat back to shore. The shark looks sad, and heads back underwater again, not coming back up this time.

*the lampent turns their head to see the shark all sad before they could submerge back down... feeling horrible themselves and actually really liking this shark, they shout* "WAIT! STOP! MR. SHARK!"

The driver sighs and stops the boat again. Having barely heard the lampent, the shark swims up to the boat and pokes their head above the water again.

*the lampent blushes, then quite literally jumps into the shark'a arms, hugging them tightly with tears coming out of their eyes, all this was very unexpected as lampent was hiding the fact that they actually really like this shark*

The lizard and the driver both rush to the side of the boat as the lampent jumps off. The shark is definitely surprised at the unexpected hug, but returns it, smiling and closing their eyes as they make sure the lampent doesn't go underwater.

"I-im sorry...it's just that this shark is...so cute! I love them..." *tears are still in the lampents eyes as they express this* "I-i-i..." *they sigh and keep hugging the shark*

Lizard: "You know, I wouldn't mind staying out here longer... And we're finally gonna be able to talk to that shark, too!"

Driver: "There's more sharks out there you know, might not be safe... You two sure about this?"

"I mean it is a nice suggestion but...I don't think so... I just wanted to hug the shark goodbye...that's really all I wanted" *the lampent nuzzles the shark happily, smiling a bit as they do* "Besides the shark can't talk anyways, it's holding their breath up here"

The shark looks down at the water, and sinks down just enough to get their mouth under. "I sort of can... I'd really like to see you again sometime, it's so rare to be friends with someone from the land..." Their voice is a bit muffled, but still easy to make out.

Lizard: "I can try to help with that, I need some practice myself. We could do that together!

Shark: "I'll do my best to help you too, if you come by. Hopefully that'll lead to me learning more about the land people, too!"

Shark: "I can carry you back to shore if you want, just hold onto me." They reorient themselves so the lampent would be able to ride them if they wanted to.

The shark smiles, and starts swimming with the lampent on them.

Driver: "Guess you and I are heading back on our own, then." He starts up the boat again to get the lizard back to shore as well.

Shark: "I really hope I see you again sometime!" They wave to the lampent.

The lizard gets off the boat, and the driver picks up the air tank, following him off. "Time to get this refilled... And to grab a couple more of them, too."
