In order to fill the needs of the Republic of the Winter's army, something more than a simple attack fox was needed. As such, military researchers in an unmarked black site on the northern end of the Deadshoulder mountain range have designed the F.O.X.; Fully Obedient (spet) Xyon. FOX units act as spotters and companions to snipers/marksmen embedded in infantry squads and recon units. They are named after the Spet Xyons, or 'White Huns' as they are more commonly known because of their role in aiding skirmishing snipers and recon teams and allowing the Winter Army to fight beyond standoff range with artillery and high precision weapons.

Naturally, your typical red fox is not a good candidate. Sapient subjects are needed for production and are 'recruited' the same as the protogen soldiers. People who show exceptional resistance reluctance to 'volunteer' are set aside and converted into FOX units. Their reality is augmented and they are programmed for absolute obedience as four-legged companions.
