Marsha and Angelina sat next to the cushion that held the Pokémon Egg upright, keeping an eye on it just in case it made a move. It remained in the same spot without much activity. Seeing an egg up close was exciting for the two of them. There was a lot of anticipation for the birth of a baby pokémon into the world.

“Good thing Lady Drevelle will be kept busy, won’t have to worry about another chore while focusing on our main task,” said Angelina as the snivy kept her eye on the egg.

“Agreed, that’s one less thing to concern ourselves with. I wish Drevelle would ease down a little and not be so… strict. I know she wants everything to be in order, but she needs to improve her attitude,” said Marsha.

“While she is rather unlikeable to some, we do have to listen to her when she tells us to do something,” said the snivy.

“Perhaps she’ll change one day,” said the pikachu as she waved her tail around a bit. “Though I do wonder… what brought about her strict personality and her dislike for younger children? I mean… if you're running an orphanage, shouldn’t interacting with children be part of the job?”

“If it isn’t it, it should be. After all, the rest of the kids don’t like Lady Drevelle either because of her personality,” said Angelina. “They call her mean or unfair. She’s even gained the nickname: Queen of Mean. That’s how much the other children don’t like her.”

“I won’t disagree with that, she’s like that at times,” said Marsha.

While they spoke amongst themselves, they saw the egg slightly move a few inches to the left. This indicated the egg may be ready to hatch soon. This surprised them quite a bit as they weren’t expecting it to move for a good while. Angelina grabbed a few blankets from the closet in the nursery and placed them near the cushion in-case it decided to move again. They wanted to prevent the egg from being damaged if it fell over.

They sat back down as they continued to observe the egg for any further movement. There was a bit of a glow that happened, but only for a couple of seconds. This mystified both interns as they made sure to take note of this. Every potential minute couldn’t be wasted.

“Interesting… it glowed for a second. Perhaps it’ll start hatching soon.” said Angelina.

“Yeah, and it’ll be a beautiful moment to observe,” said Marsha.

After a couple of hours passed, it was now eleven o’ clock, both interns had gotten pretty hungry from watching the egg. Thankfully, Miss Marin opened the door and walked in holding a box with a few sandwiches on the top of it. She decided to bring them lunch since she figured they’d be hungry after a while.

“Here you two go, two oran-berry sandwiches from the dining room. The other children were already having their scheduled lunch time and I decided to grab some food from there as well,” said the audino as she placed the box on the ground and handed the sandwiches off to the interns. The snivy and pikachu gently grabbed the sandwiches as they said “Thank you Miss Marin.”

“You’re welcome, any progress on our egg?” asked Miss Marin.

“It moved a few inches and then emitted a bright glow for a couple of seconds, nothing else has occurred after that,” said Marsha.

“You’re doing a good job watching that egg, with what we have so far…. That means the egg may begin hatching soon.” said Miss Marine.

“Oh goodness! That sounds fantastic!” exclaimed Angelina.

“What’s in the box?” asked Marsha as she observed the box.

“I picked out a blue and white striped onesie with light-blue booties for an outfit, then brought it up in this box. I figured it’d look cute on the baby once it hatched.” said the audino as she took out the articles of clothing and showed them to the two interns.

“Awww… so cute!” the interns said in unison.

“I am glad you approve of it, the booties will keep the little one’s feet comfy and warm. This onesie is made by the Seamstress Synthia, who is very good at creating many articles of clothing for children. She had this made along with other baby outfits in case they were needed.” said Miss Marin. “It also has little pockets on the si-”

The conversation was interrupted by the sound of cracking, the three in the nursery turned towards the egg and saw that it was beginning to hatch, and rather quickly too! They watched with anticipation and excitement to see what baby pokémon would come out of the egg as cracks formed on its surface. The moment had arrived after a small amount of hours.

“Oh boy, here they come!” said Angelina.

“Let’s see what little cutie comes out of this egg!” said Marsha.

“It’s hatching rather quickly, seems like the little one inside is eager to get out,” said the audino as she chuckled to herself.

After the egg finished cracking, it emitted a very bright glow that enveloped the room for ten seconds and faded away afterwards. Inside of it contained a baby riolu with brown eyes, a shiny one at that! The little one opened its eyes slowly as it saw Angelina staring at him happily. The first face he’d ever see. The little pokemon let out a happy babble of sorts.

“Awwww! It’s so adorable!” said the pikachu.

“So cute!” exclaimed the snivy.

“Very much so, this is a riolu and from what I can see… It's a healthy baby boy!” said Miss Marin. “Come here little one, let’s get you all dressed.” as she picked up the baby gently and brought him over to the changing table in the Nursery. Angelina and Marsha gathered up the set of clothing and diapers, putting it by the table.

“There you go!” said Marsha and Angelina.

“Very good, now watch carefully, this is important. I am going to show you how to diaper a baby or toddler,” said the audino as she began going through the steps. “Step onto these tall stools, it should give you a good view.” as the two interns got up on them so they could observe Miss Marin.

She held the legs of the little one up in the air gently as she slid the clean diaper underneath, then pulled the front of it up so that it was in-between the legs and the belly. Once that was done, she fastened the tapes on it and added some baby powder into the front and back. Afterwards, she placed the little one in the onesie she brought into the room, making sure to secure the frontal buttons. Putting their little booties on gently. During all this, the baby riolu was wiggling around a bit, but Miss Marin expected this might happen so she did her best to stay calm.

“There we go, nice and dressed for the day. Aren’t you the wiggly one?” the audino asked as the baby pokemon let out a giggle.

“Miss Marin… may I give the baby a name?” asked Angelina.

“Of course dear, go right ahead,” the audino said in a gentle tone as she picked up the baby riolu.

“I want to name him Nicholas…. It's a very common name. We can call him Nicky if needed,” said the snivy.

“That’s a good name, that’ll be his name then.” said Miss Marin as the riolu gave off a happy babble. “I guess he approves of it.”

The audino then handed the boy off to Angelina, who made sure to hold onto him gently. He was a bit heavy, but she didn’t mind that one bit. She was happy to see that nothing went wrong while the egg was hatching. She then proceeded to ask her “Could I please show him around his new home with Marsha?”

“That’s a good idea, I’ll get him registered in the Owner’s Office. Have fun you three,” said Miss Marin as she exited the room, with both interns following after. The baby riolu looked around as it was being carried by Angelina. They were curious about its surroundings.

“Nicholas… Welcome to the world and your home, Blisswood Orphanage. This is where you were born, on the second floor in the Nursery. There are also other rooms such as the bathroom and the sewing room, I am going to show you the sewing room.” said Angelina as she headed down to the sewing room, which was a few doors down from the Nursery. But, they were stopped by Lady Drevelle who was rather inquisitive about the baby boy.

“Who is this child that you are holding in your arms, Angelina?” She asked.

“Lady Drevelle, this is Nicholas, but you can also call him Nicky. He’s a shiny baby riolu who hatched from his egg recently. He’s such a cutie!” said Marsha as the gothitelle observed him for a moment and then backed away. She gave off an annoyed groan. In her perspective, this was another child that was no different than the rest.

“Keep this brat away from me, and don’t let it bother me!” Lady Drrevelle said in a stern tone as she walked back to her office. This scared the baby and caused him to start whining in fear.

“It’s okay little one… it’ll be okay. Lady Drevelle isn’t fond of little children unfortunately,” said Angelina. This interrupted the bit of the tour she was going to do with Nicky. She wished that the owner of the orphanage didn’t show such hostility towards a newborn child. Especially one that didn’t do anything to warrant such a reaction.

“I recommend we take him outside, that should calm him down.” said the pikachu, doing her best to remain calm. Both interns were worried about the baby.

“Good idea, let’s try that.” the snivy said.

The two interns went outside through the entrance door to the Orphanage as a few children watched them do so. They were curious about the newborn and wanted to know about them. As they stepped outside, they were met with a warm and comfortable summer breeze. After feeling the gentle wind against his fur, the baby stopped whining and began to relax a little as it purred. Marsha’s recommendation worked out well.

“Ah good… he’s calm now. Let’s show him the playground that the other children play on,” said Marsha.

“Yeah, I am sure he’ll like seeing that.” replied Angelina. These two made their way over to the playground where it was quiet right now since it wasn’t playground time just yet. Nicholas looked at the playground as he let out some babbles that represented that he was curious about what he was seeing.

“This is the playground where all the children play on when they are outside for playground time. They all get twenty-five minutes to enjoy themselves, I wish it was an hour so the children could get some more playtime. When you’re a little older, you’ll be able to play here too. But for now, you’ll be having fun in the nursery, there’ll be plenty of your own toys to play with,” the pikachu said in a gentle tone to the baby riolu. The little pokemon let out some babbling as he began to nod off and fall asleep in Angelina’s arms. They figured it was about time to take him back to the nursery for nap time. They didn’t say a word as they made their way back to the room.

Upon arriving back at the nursery, Miss Marin was standing near the cribs. She was holding a bottle of warm infant formula as she nodded at the two interns after seeing that the baby riolu was sleeping comfortably and didn’t want to wake him up. Angelina gently handed Nicky over to Marin as she began to feed him the bottle of formula while rocking him in her arms.

“I’ll take everything from here… go ahead and have a break in the staff bedroom.” the audino said quietly to them. Both interns nodded as they happily exited the room. “Rest peacefully little Nicky, for tomorrow is another day for having fun. I hope your dreams are pleasant.”

The riolu smiled in their sleep as they finished drinking their bottle of formula, letting out a burp before they could be burped by Marin. The audino giggled as she gently placed the baby in an empty crib, flat on their back, and tucked them in carefully. She watched over the child as he slept, just in case he needed anything else. Like a diaper change or if they were frightened by a bad dream and needed some comforting.
