June 2nd, 1995, 8:30 AM:
Blisswood Orphanage, a home to 345 orphans who were abandoned by parents who weren’t ready to care for their children or chose not to raise them. Even with advancements in medical care and technology, child abandonment was still a big issue in many regions across the Pokemon World. Especially within the younger demographic.
At the moment, there was a thirteen and fourteen year-old female Snivy and Pikachu cleaning up the entrance to the building after they finished cleaning the bedroom. This chore was given by Lady Drevelle. They were known as Angelina and Marsha, childhood friends. Well known for their kindness and patience. Both were interns from their middle school to become potential nurses, and they had been in their internship since school was out for the summer
While these two worked over the summer, they had to wear a white and pink uniform which resembled a maid’s dress while the others had to wear a fancy suit with the Blisswood Orphanage logo on it, which was a hand gently holding a pink rose. It represented the beauty and perfection of the orphanage. When they weren’t on duty, they were able to relax in the Staff Bedroom or go outside to sniff the flowers.
“Phew… this cleaning is a lot of hard work… but it’s for our summer internship after all. Don’t want Lady Drevelle to be disappointed,” said Angelina as she scrubbed the entrance walls.
“Yeah, last time we didn’t complete our last chore successfully, we were given two additional chores as a punishment. As strict as she is, Lady Drevelle does want everything to be in perfect or acceptable conditions.” replied Marsha as she swept the stairs.
Right as they were about to finish cleaning, a tall and robed pokemon with a black tail approached the entrance while being watched by two Machoke security guards on duty for the day shift. Marsha and Angelina were confused about them. This mysterious individual gently dropped a bright yellow pokemon egg on the ground by the staircase and immediately ran off.
The security guards watched as the visitor vanished. They couldn’t do anything unless a child was escaping or if someone was actually trying to break in. Angelina and Marsha quickly went over to examine the pokemon egg. It was the first time they ever saw someone leave one behind. Both were saddened by this.
“Poor baby… their mother left them behind…” She replied.
“We need to take them to the nursery and report this to either Lady Drevelle or Miss Marin,” said her friend.
“Right, let’s finish up our work and do that afterwards,” said Angelina as the front entrance door was opened by Marin and Lady Drevelle. A Gothitelle and Audino. They were confused about what the two interns were doing. Miss Marin is the Audino who watches over all the staff and interns, she is gentle and compassionate.
“What are you two doing? Both of you should be cleaning the entrance in case we have any visitors.” said Lady Drevelle in a stern tone.
“Lady Drevelle and Miss Marin, someone abandoned this pokemon egg near the stairs to the orphanage,” said Angelina as she brought it over to them to observe. Her friend followed behind them. The audino watched with curiosity as it was shown to them. Drevelle didn’t care much for it as she went to critically observe how much of the entrance was cleaned.
“Oh my…. It’s a good thing you two brought this to our attention. Please bring it to the nursery and I’ll give it a proper medical examination,” said Miss Marin. Drevelle got slightly irritated since she didn’t want them to leave until their chore was done.
“They are staying here to clean the entrance, it's not even fully cleaned yet…” said Lady Drevelle.
“As the main manager of all staff and interns, I insist you let them go for now! It's important for them as interns to learn about the important duties of being a nurse. You may assign someone else to finish the task, it doesn’t always have to be those two!” She gently exclaimed. The gothitelle let out an annoyed sigh as she didn’t want to be arguing all day about this. While Marin was gentle, she could hold her ground when she needed to.
“Fine… they can have a break from their chores for a bit.” said the gothitelle hesitantly. Both interns breathed a sigh of relief. Marsha and Angelina went inside the building, saying “Thank you!” to Miss Marin on the way. They went up the stairway to the second floor and made a right turn, heading to the door that was labeled ‘Nursery’ in light-blue letters. Angelina held onto the egg gently, like a concerned mother wanting to protect her child from danger.
“I’ll get the door since you have your hands full,” said Marsha as she gently opened the door and turned the light on. There were no infants in the room since all of them were adopted last month. The pikachu pointed to the small light-blue cushion in the middle of the room. Angelina nodded and gently placed the egg onto it.
“Thank you, I hope this egg hasn’t been damaged. So far… I don’t see any damage.” said Angelina.
“I am sure it’s alright, Miss Marin will come in and say that everything is fine,” said the pikachu as she gave her friend a reassuring smile to boost her confidence.
Ten seconds later, Miss Marin entered the room with a medical kit and a small pack of diapers with baby powder. She said to them, “Good work, you’ve got the egg in a good spot. It’s important to handle pokemon eggs carefully, don’t want them breaking before they properly hatch. I brought my medical kit with some other supplies,” The snivy and pikachu watched curiously as Marin put down everything and got a magnifying glass from her medical kit. She then began her examination of the egg.
“No prior damage to the egg so far from what I see, and it’s got a bright-yellow coloration to it.” said the audino as she continued to examine it slowly and carefully. Both interns were pleased that no problems had been sighted, and they were curious about what baby pokemon was going to hatch from the egg.
After a thorough examination, Miss Marin put her magnifying glass away in her medical kit and said to the two interns, “According to my medical examination of the egg, it is undamaged and in healthy condition. I know Lady Drevelle wanted to assign you two another chore later, but I am giving you the most important task: watching over this egg until it hatches.”
“We’d be honored to watch over it, Miss Marin!” said Marsha. She was rather excited along with Angelina to receive such an important task. “But I do wonder… how do we know when it's going to hatch?”
“Look for signs of movement from the egg, the slightest shift in position will indicate when it's ready to hatch, and when it does… you will see small cracks beginning to form. This is when the official hatching begins,” The audino instructed. “I am going to check on the other children in the orphanage. Don’t worry about Lady Drevelle, I’ll distract her for the time being. See you two later.”
Both interns nodded as they watched her exit the room. Both Marsha and Angelina sat by the egg, watching for any sort of movement that might indicate that it may be ready to hatch soon. It was certainly an exciting time for them. What was going to hatch from the abandoned pokemon egg? There was only one way to find out!
