Solomon "Sally" Runnels 'earned' his nickname because of his feminine appearance. Teased and bullied in school for his looks, Sal decided to fight back not through violence but by taking the nickname "Sally" and making it his own. Asking the friends he had to use it and befuddling his bullies, eventually they found no more fun in teasing him.
A friend of Dika's, the other squirrel asked Sally to work for him after graduation and the he saw no reason not to. Baking was a fun hobby so why not make a career from it? Now he works the afternoon shift alongside the tiny tiger, Jacob.
While friendly and usually open, Sally does have a sarcastic side to him that comes out more when he's annoyed.
When I'm coming up with or mentally designing an OC, a lot of times the process is more important to me. Mostly because that's where I have the most fun. As one who doesn't draw, I have no comment there. My skill is in inking and coloring. So I come up with designs and see how others interpret them.
In the case of adopts, like Sal here, it's a case of what catches my eye. Then I design a backstory and place for them around that.
